Decision Not to Rebuild Church Destroyed on 9/11 Surprises Greek Orthodox Leaders

Greek Orthodox leaders trying to rebuild the only church destroyed in the Sept. 11 terror attacks expressed shock this week after learning, via Fox News, that government officials had killed a deal to relocate the church.

The St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, once a tiny, four-story building in the shadows of lower Manhattan, was destroyed in 2001 by one of the falling World Trade Center towers. Nobody from the church was hurt in the attack, but the congregation has, for the past eight years, been trying to rebuild its house of worship.

Though talks between the church and the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey stalled last year, church leaders say they've been trying to kick-start discussions ever since. But amid debate over whether a proposed Islamic community center should go forward near Ground Zero, government officials threw cold water on the prospect of any deal with the church -- telling Fox News the deal is off the table.

Funny, all the Greek Americans I know are conservatives and despize obama. Rememeber most own their own business.

oh wait I forgot about jenifer aniston.

Conservative Greek-Americans are a very small but growing number. By the way, Jennifer Aniston (like Tina Fey) is half Greek.

It's separation of CHURCH and state.

Not separation of Mosque and state.

I guess you're just not smart enough to understand.

Thank you SKR. That was helpful.

Islam will not be happy until all people of other faiths are dead or converted. It is what they do. It is why they are so rabid.

Two-bits says Zero won’t take a stand on this one. It’s not in his agenda of world domination for Islam.

“Speak no evil, see no evil, hear no evil.”

The message is not one to be welcomed so folks adopt the Ostrich Syndrome.

Go to youtube and type “churches burning Kosovo.” We support and protect those who are doing it in Serbia. Why would anyone think this wasn’t coming here?

Bump!

As Americans, we were raised to think that we were pretty invulnerable. But as I watched what was happening in the Balkans, I knew that we weren't immune. Because the same globalists who had no respect for the lives of others, also had no respect for us. 9/11 didn't come as the shock to me that it did to most other Americans.

Unfortunately, as we can see with the Ground Zero Mosque, this could well be our future too, with the globalist cops standing by and doing nothing to stop it!

Islamic terrorists can destroy a peaceful Christian church yet our troops aren’t allowed to target mosques harboring terrorists.

Worse, they are allowed to build a victory mosque on the same site while the church is not allowed to be rebuilt.

in occupied cyprus the moslems are using the churches as animal stables, and are looting the frescos and mosaics.

when our government depends upon FOREIGN funding...more than upon the TAX revenues We the People provide...the Foreign Creditors’ priorities quite naturally trump those of We the People.

Americans haven’t really yet come to appreciate who really owns the Federal Government. It ain’t them.

For it was Jesus Who was witnessed — His intervention — by many of those who miraculously survived the disaster.

My cousin (in-law) was visiting NYC with his teenage son that week. They had an early morning planned for 9-11, but the boy was staying up late playing video games (jet lag from West coast). My cousin is normally a tough parent, letting the kids learn from their mistakes, and would have rousted him from bed for their full day of touring that included a visit to the WTC.

But he told me later that when he was going to wake his son, he felt a hand on his back, and heard the message: “let the boy sleep.”

Um, the letter writer's a Republican candidate for Congress.

And now that Obama very publicly gave his full-throated support to the mosque (despite subsequent back-pedaling), let him very publicly state his position on the Greek church.

The smartest President ever set himself up for this one; I'll enjoy seeing him try to squirm and lie his way out. So he does have a lot to do with this.
