Colorado Governor: Hickenlooper (D) 43%, Maes (R) 31%, Tancredo (ACP) 18%
Rasmussen Reports ^ | August 13, 2010 | Scott Rasmussen

Posted on 08/15/2010 5:25:08 AM PDT by Titus Quinctius Cincinnatus

Democratic candidate John Hickenlooper now holds a double-digit lead in the three-way race for governor of Colorado.

The latest Rasmussen Reports telephone survey of Likely Colorado Voters finds Hickenlooper, the mayor of Denver, with 43% support. Businessman Dan Maes, the winner of Tuesday’s Republican Primary, captures 31% of the vote, while American Constitution Party candidate Tom Tancredo trails with 18%. Three percent (3%) prefer some other candidate in the race, and five percent (5%) are undecided.

This is the first poll conducted since Maes won the Republican primary.

It shows Maes with a bit more support than he had before the primary and Tancredo with a bit less support.

Hickenlooper’s level of support has been fairly steady for months, but he has clearly benefitted from Tancredo’s entry in the race which splits the Republican vote. The Democrat had run roughly even with Maes in two earlier surveys.

Do you ever sit and wonder if either certain ethnic groups have a genetic predisposition to socialism, or, perhaps there is a cultural predisposition to it?

I think that is starting to change...people are reaching a breaking point.

The problem isn’t Tancredo’s strong illegal immigration position so much as the way he approaches it, and the fact that he talks about nothing else.

Yesterday Tancredo spoke at a 9-12 meeting in Vail (to which he had been invited months ago). The man (Dr. Mike Schneider organizer of the Vail Valley 9-12 Coalition) who introduced Tancredo, laid into him for 5 minutes. It’s worth a listen:

‘It is unwise for Americans to identify more with Europeans.’

Not from Colorado, but I have never heard that Tancredo identifies himself as an Italian, rather than an American.

The GOP Establishment smacked Tancredo up good for not towing the line on “comprehensive immigration reform.”

I don’t trust insider GOP politicians either because they are so Democrat-lite when one cuts through the emotional wedge issues that are created for election year consumption like the Arizona immigration law not tied up in court.

The McCain’s, Hatch’s, Maes’s etc. will all support amnesty for illegals at some point in the future.

well, I know what the smart Democrats would do, I know that Bill Clinton would do and got elected in this exactly same way, and that is to offer Credo high up job in the next Republican administration.

Is that too much to ask for? Apparently so.

Those in the Repub Party who insist on running against a man they know they support, Tom Tancredo, is why this is now in chaos. They easily could have had the other guy run for Lt Gov and offered support to Tancredo....and also forged an alliance with the American Constitution Party.

The rino pupput masters want their money and influence.

They are the idiots.

Why? Do you think Tancredo gets his 18% from the ‘rat and not from the conservative? I think you are wrong on that.

I don't it is genetic, but culture may have some impact if the person is foreign-born. In terms of immigration, just look at the countries many of them come from. Their view of government is shaped by their origins.

The bulwark against socialism has been our founding documents and assimilation. Given the fact that one in 8 in this country is now foreign born compared to one in 21 in 1970, there has been erosion of our values and the vision of our founders. Assimilation is not taking place as in the past.

I suggest you read the Rasmussen report and get the particulars on where Tancredo’s numbers come from.

The purity battles need to happen in the primaries.

I think you're right, but as soon as these guys see that they may not win the primaries (in other words, their ideas haven't convinced enough people), they pick up their marbles and go off to found or join another party. It would be just a petty sulk if it weren't for the fact that it usually hands the election to the Dems.

I used to respect Tancredo for his not-so-popular stances on immigration, etc. But he’s throwing a monkey wrench into the works here. He’s not going to be elected. Tom — STOP!!!

He says that when he wins he will deal with Immigration within the first month. 31 percent is pretty good and it is still early.

Yeah. Great. Except Tancredo doesn't have 31%. He has 18% and he's dividing the GOP vote. Oh, he's making a point alright, but the dem benefits. That solves nothing.

It is NEVER principled to elect Democrats. Tancredo is a self absorbed egomaniac.

You mean the part of the Ras report that says “Hickenlooper’s level of support has been fairly steady for months, but he has clearly benefitted from Tancredo’s entry in the race which splits the Republican vote.” or was it some other section you wanted me to look at? What is your point?

Don’t mention that, people will call you a RINO. There are those who’d rather vote for Tancredo and bomb the election, allowing the Democrat to win and be in charge in Colorado when redistricting happens then gather under the banner of a potential less-conservative candidate.

I can tell you that fighting to enforce the border and produce comprehensive immigration reform is one thing but there seems to be a lot of folks like Tancredo out there who, maybe unintentionally, are appearing to be demonizing Hispanic’s because of the immigration issue. People need to focus their anger on the politicians who allow this situation to occur, the businesses who happily hire illegals and provide incentive for them to come here in the first place.

The Democrat’s are trying their darndest to pull their usual bullshit about “we care for the working person”(aka come join our other constituencies in virtual slavery) and ultimately, this is the demographic that will decide this nation’s political future in the long-term. Bush had the right idea regarding trying to bring Hispanic’s into the fold, but his immigration amnesty was short-sighted in that it provided very limited provisions for enforcement.

Enforcement and securing the borders should be the first priority and only AFTER that is accomplished should we begin any discussion of “comprehensive immigration reform.”
