Democratic candidate John Hickenlooper now holds a double-digit lead in the three-way race for governor of Colorado.
The latest Rasmussen Reports telephone survey of Likely Colorado Voters finds Hickenlooper, the mayor of Denver, with 43% support. Businessman Dan Maes, the winner of Tuesday’s Republican Primary, captures 31% of the vote, while American Constitution Party candidate Tom Tancredo trails with 18%. Three percent (3%) prefer some other candidate in the race, and five percent (5%) are undecided.
This is the first poll conducted since Maes won the Republican primary.
It shows Maes with a bit more support than he had before the primary and Tancredo with a bit less support.
Hickenlooper’s level of support has been fairly steady for months, but he has clearly benefitted from Tancredo’s entry in the race which splits the Republican vote. The Democrat had run roughly even with Maes in two earlier surveys.

He can do that without being on the ballot.

Do the people of Colorado deserve having Hickenlooper redistrict the legislative and Congressional districts.
The American people are asleep as their country is being stolen from them right in front of their noses. We are being colonized and the Dems will become the permanent majority party. Our own democratic institutions and the ballot box will be used against us.

What if Tancredo and Maes were to coordinate their efforts (maybe not likely, but it would be smart). If they secretly agreed to lay off each other and spend their time campaigning against Hickenlooper, Hick would be outnumbered 2-1. It would be really effective during the debates (assuming Hickenlooper shows up for any of them) because they could both spend their time criticizing the Dem in the race, thereby also reducing the amount of time he would have for rebuttal.
This would only work, of course, if they had also agreed that one of them (probably Tancredo) would drop out prior to the election and endorse the other. Stay in long enough to multiply the damage to Hickenlooper and then get out to avoid splitting the vote. What does everyone think about that idea?
It’s a good idea, but GOP candidates aren’t capable of that level of strategy.

Does the rest of America deserve Colorado Congressmen elected by Democrat gerrymandered districts. I know that I don’t, and the only thing I can do about it is to urge support for the candidate most likely to defeat Hickenlooper, NO MATTER HOW BAD HE IS OTHERWISE.
Who is going to do the gerrymandering? The legislature and/or the Governor? The Dems already control the legislature.

According to an article in the ‘Colorado Statesman’ legislative redistricting is done by a commission consisting of the four party leaders in the legislature, three members appointed by the Governor, and four appointed by the Chief Justice of the Colorado Supreme Court.
Congressional redistricting is done by a bill passed by the state legislature and signed by the Governor. If they can’t agree, the Federal District Court will do it.
I’m sypathetic to backing someone who would be tough on illegal illegation. The trouble with Tancredo is I have a difficulty believing he’s genuine after his support for Romney.
I won’t call for him to drop out. I refuse to make it easier for the parties by calling “spoilers” out. They should be good enough to win even with a third party challenge. If they aren’t, they don’t deserve to win. But I don’t want to hear about how he’s a real conservative with unshakeable principles. If he was as hardline as some supporters make him out to be, he’d never have supported the man who employed illegals on his own grounds.
Uh, let’s see. ...draft dodger, public school teacher, Italian identity. No, I don’t think so.
In Colorado, there are many Republicans and Democrats leaning radically to the anti-property-rights, anti-family, pro-big-government left, but conservatives are extremely rare.
All your percentages show is how far left the East Slope has become, the West Sloppers are still good conservatives for the most part.
I honestly don’t think Tancredo gives a darn about anyone or anything but himself. He should have run in the primary and let the best man or woman represent the GOP.

Tancredo isn’t polling 31, he’s polling 18. So he puts the RAT in power in this case, unless things dramatically change. Will he drop out a month in advance of the general election, to allow Conservatives to defeat the RAT, or...?

Also amazing what passes as “principled” when there are enormous consequences - like the Statehouse on the line. In case Tancredo isn’t aware of it, his rhetoric alone won’t mean a thing with the RATs in the Statehouse. Then what, gear up for 2014? Come on, we’ve got to be smarter and more strategic than that.

As to fighting RINOs and fighting for principle - where was Tancredo in the primary? Now’s not the time to dance with your fancy pants and put a RAT in the Statehouse...I’m afraid that’s how he’ll be remembered if he goes through with this nonsense.
We need to win primaries and/or pull moderates (if that’s our legit concern) to the right during that time.

Maes + Tancredo is +6% over Hickenlooper - so what’s your logic there?

The purity battles need to happen in the primaries.

Time to run to the hills and give this nation to the RATS permanently. We’ve got to start somewhere! Tancredo should have started in the GOP primary.
