FDA Food Safety Modernization Act (Illegal to grow your own food)
www.govtrack.us ^

Posted on 08/07/2010 6:47:50 PM PDT by Scythian

This bill was considered in committee which has recommended it be considered by the Senate as a whole. Although it has been placed on a calendar of business, the order in which legislation is considered and voted on is determined by the majority party leadership. Keep in mind that sometimes the text of one bill is incorporated into another bill, and in those cases the original bill, as it would appear here, would seem to be abandoned.

So, those tomatoes in my dehydrator right now. Good? Illegal?

What about the 8 pints of jalapeno pepper rings I pickled and water bath canned this week?

Or the 200 ears of sweet corn I blanched and froze back in July.

Does any of that count?

Sounds like ‘manufacturing, processing, packing’ to me. And since we’re not a ‘farm’, I guess that’s all illegal now.

All it will take is *one* death from something poorly home processed and home processing will be ‘reasonable probability that the use of or exposure to such food will cause serious adverse health consequences or death’.

Because we all know home canning is *very* dangerous but large peanut processing facilities are squeaky clean. If you don’t mind the rat feces and rodent hairs and occasional bouts of salmonella poisoning.

Well now,,,I guess I better not post about the local farmers

markets or some folks that set up small roadside stands out

in the country or the many folks that grow stuff in their

back yards and give it away,,,

Almost forgot about old black men that sell produce out

of their trucks,,,

Best melons and sweet tators around,,,corn,,,peas,,,okra,,,

all the good stuff,,,

Better not post about the “pick-your-own” places around here,,,

Some of those old guys give their produce away to the

poor folks,,,

I bet the pot farms out west won't be covered by this Krap!

No.

Nope.

Not really.

Well, if you absolutely must panic to be happy, feel free.

If you think any politician is dumb enough to make growing your own food illegal, you're too dumb to listen to reason.

This has nothing to do with food safety and everything to do with control and taxes.

This is setting things up for a ‘stamp act’ for food. Every piece of food will have to be ‘receipted’ properly and proven safe (ie, the taxes have been paid!).

It makes it easier to control the food supply. And the people that eat.

That bag of zucchini you used to sneakily leave on your neighbors doorstep? Not any more! Ditto the dozen eggs your aunt used to send home with you when you visited.

No ‘safety stamp’, no food.

‘Not really’.

What do you mean by ‘not’ really?

Sort of illegal? Illegal? Illegal if we want it to be illegal because you supported the wrong guy last election? Illegal because I’m a LEO and haven’t busted enough people yet this month?

What is ‘not really’?

And yes, I think they would *love* to make growing our own food illegal. I think they want a cut of each and everything we do. Every pill we take (healthcare bill), Every breath we take (cap&tax), every drink of water & every piss we take (LOST), and every bite we eat.

It’s all about taxes and control.

They can’t help themselves.

I gave up trying to reason with them. Cost of enforcement, potential for corruption - none of it sank in.

Not really illegal.

And yes, I think they would *love* to make growing our own food illegal.

They'll make alcohol illegal again before they make gardening illegal.

This is the kind of thing that people will get killed over.

Remember the response to the census? There were a few census workers who escaped by the skin of their teeth.

And you think the FDA is gonna show up at J6P’s garden with a rototiller ready to slash and burn, and Mr J6P who feeds his kids with the garden is just gonna whistle Dixie?

I don’t think so, Tim.

The FDA wants to do the same as the EU: impose Draconian regulations.

Info on EU food regs:

http://europa.eu/pol/food/index_en.htm

“Whether imported or home-grown, high EU food standards apply.”

“In deciding what to do, the Commission applies the precautionary principle. In other words, it will act without waiting for scientific certainty if the scientists say there is at least a potential danger.”

Exactly. But some people aren't happy unless they can worry about the government building FEMA concentration camps, taking away your vitamins or digging up your tomatoes.

I agree with you. It doesn't make gardening illegal, but it brings you one step closer. What it does threaten is the road side stand. It will be like the Amish that get busted for selling unprocessed milk.

Eff the people of this country is what I believe is the attitude of the radical Leftists in charge today. Always has been a degree of criminal element in government, but today it’s blatantly out of control.

I say these major corporations that are so behind this Leftist radical Socialist Democrat infested government administration of the Soros Pimp Obama, and his sidekicks Reid, and Pelosi are buying them off for laws to benefit their bottom line. It’s happening in all different areas of our market system (note that I eliminated the word “free” from before the word “market”?), and in some cases some of their illicit legislation is covering multiple areas of the market.

My basic belief is that Liberals are idiots. They consist of about twenty percent, which is a large chunk of the populace actually. I believe that Criminal elements use these idiots so easily manipulated for their personal gain, therefore is why we see such controversy between the idiots, and their masters as the Masters go about sacking the country instead of going about as the idiots truly believed the lying sacks of compost promised them they would.

I believe this past election the static quantity of idiots and the cajoled quantity of PC idiots, along with those self righteous non-descriminators intent upon proving their lack of prejudice in the private polling booth tipped the scale as the Obama/Soros campaign anticipated with their tactics.

What appears to be happening is reversible upon establishment of legitimate government. Upon the elimination of the Soros mafia, or whatever one calls the radicals of the Soros political war machine that is entrenched in our government today.

We have to win.

Oh, you mean like the same type of politicians who would keep people from raising wheat on their OWN land to feed their OWN livestock?

Or the type who would read such rights as the second amendment (Shall not be infringed) as, “as long as we say so.”

Or maybe the type who would deem and pass regulations forcing you to buy something, or fining you if you don’t.

What was that about “dumb” people. Oh yeah, they don’t listen to reason...

You are absolutely correct. In Utah, where I presently find myself. Until 3 weeks ago, it was illegal to collect rainwater (it still is for businesses). And it IS illegal to collect rainwater in other states. There is no end to this, because it’s founder is Satan. The end will only come when Christ, again returns.
