Looking for a New Religion? Apple Gives Dose of the Divine

Next time you're in need of a spiritual pick-me-up, maybe you should forego the traditional houses of worship and seek out the technophile's temple instead: the Apple Store.

According to two academics at Texas A & M University, Apple products aren't just consumer-friendly, sexy gadgets, but instruments of the divine.

"[Apple] could offer a religious-like experience. It could basically perform the same role in people's lives that being part of a religious community could, at one time," said Heidi Campbell, a communications professor who co-wrote an academic paper exploring the religious myths and metaphors surrounding the tech giant and its larger-than-life founder and CEO, Steve Jobs.

It's bad form to mock another's religion (no matter how kooky), but this article is rather funny, in a sad way.

Those "fanbois" are perfectly quaint!

This is ridiculous, not to mention shallow. As the owner of a Macbook and iPhone, I have to say that finding religion in either one of them would be like finding religion in my can opener or my hair dryer. They are tools, nothing more, nothing less. Obviously written by someone with no religion to speak of.

What an unholy bunch of bunk.

My husband has several different Bibles on his Sony reader. I’ll be searching for an Amplified version after I buy my iPad today (HUZZAH!).

Buying tech gives adults the same feeling kids get when they get a trip to the store for a new toy they’ve been wanting. We all want that feeling, preferably more than once in our lives, and it makes being human a lot more fun.

I’ve been looking to build a new PC for the past two years. This week I ordered the parts, they’re now in my dining room, and Assembly Day is on Saturday. I feel more like a kid in a candy store than a church-goer.

This is EXACTLY what my business’ computer/security consultant says. That Apple is like a religious cult, where the adherents buy their products no matter whether they have rational reason to do so.

Not that all Apple owners are cultists, nor that they’re not sometimes the rational choice, but the “core” is loyal beyond reason.

Ki Mae Heussner
After working for several years in the public, non-profit and private sectors, including for a U.S. senator and Lifetime Television, Ki Mae came to Medill to study new approaches to journalism and mass communication. Her work has been published in Time Out Chicago, the Chicago Journal, the Daily Herald and other local daily papers. Earlier this year, she helped cover Malaysia’s general elections for Malaysiakini, a pioneering, independent online news outlet based in Kuala Lumpur. Ki Mae received a bachelor’s degree in English from Dartmouth College.

Notice that she has an ENGLISH DEGREE! Real Brain here and typical of the Apple owner.
In a way Apple/Steve Jobs IS a religion and one that has more in common with Islam than Christianity.
1. Apple owners like believers of Islam believe that there way is the only way and all non - believers are not just wrong but are ridiculed and disdained.
2. They never ever say anything against their god (Apple) or its prophet (Steve Jobs) and consider anybody that does say something as heretics that need to be destroyed.
3. They always follow the commands of their prophet (Steve Jobs) no matter how much it costs.
4. They, like the believers of Islam, tend to think of themselves as being enlightened.
6. They practice jihad against anyone who honestly disagrees with them.
7. The world would not miss them if they died off and society would probably be better off without them.

Got my iPad stolen while in Honolulu.

You will need a cover for your iPad; Apple makes a nice microfiber black cover. And while it’s a very nice, durable and userful cover - it’s flat black and very form-fitting. This makes it easier to steal.

There are brighter color sleeves for the iPad; I would suggest you give strong consideration to one of those - the black one is just too easy to tuck under one’s arm and walk off with.

That was a lesson I learned last week ... A $700 lesson.

Congrats on the iPad!! It’s a wonderful tool.
