PPP: Obama, Palin tied 46/46 in 2012 polling
Hot Air ^ | July 15, 2010 | Ed Morrissey

No, this is not coming from Rasmussen or an internal GOP poll, but from the normally Democrat-sympathetic Public Policy Polling...

With his approval numbers hitting new lows it’s no surprise that Barack Obama’s numbers in our monthly look ahead to the 2012 Presidential race are their worst ever this month. He trails Mitt Romney 46-43, Mike Huckabee 47-45, Newt Gingrich 46-45, and is even tied with Sarah Palin at 46. The only person tested he leads is Jan Brewer, who doesn’t have particularly high name recognition on the national level at this point.

It’s not that any of the Republican candidates are particularly well liked. Only Huckabee has positive favorability numbers at 37/28. Romney’s at 32/33, Gingrich at 32/42, Palin at 37/52, and Brewer at 17/20. But with a majority of Americans now disapproving of Obama it’s no surprise that a large chunk of them would replace him as President if they had that choice today.

There are two things driving these strong poll numbers for the Republican candidates. The first is a lead with independents in every match up. Romney leads 48-35 with them, Gingrich is up 50-39, Huckabee has a 46-40 advantage, Palin’s up 47-42, and even Brewer has a 38-37 edge.

"She is the one who can gain on Obama, they've shot their wad with her already. If she runs, she's very capable of winning over the american people directly."

BINGO! And that's why they fear Sarah the most - she will win in 2012 unless there is massive voter fraud from ACORN/SEIU communists.

Per your list, Rudy would be a great Secretary of State.

By the same token, Ron Paul would be a great Secretary of the Treasury.

McCain might even be a decent Secretary of Defense.

Romney might be a great.... lemme get back to ya, OK???

You can lol all you want, she's one of the few sticking it to Obama daily, you don't hear that from Romney or Newt.

She takes on the NAACP head on, Newt wants to play nice with them so he won;t be called a racist, and Romney, as usual, slimes around and does nothing.

Great candidates those two, don't you think J? Standing up for conservatism all the way........not.

I was polled by these people just this week! Went on and on, and even asked about Lebron James!

“Both Romney and Gingrich would fall as the MSM goes after them like they have already with Palin.”

Right on. She and her family have been smeared royally and still stands. Neither Newt nor Romney have been tested as much.

In the last race, McCain couldn’t even get his op-ed posted in NYT — they told him to rewrite it. He had calculated that the drive-bys would cut him some slack. Hah!

Gingrich is the most fearsome debator

Palin is the only one courageous enough to accuse Obama of what he is really doing, applying the theories of Marx by means of the methods of Alinsky and the Chicago mob, and she will do it in terms that the average person can understand and know to be true.

We don't know who will run, but if Romney, Huck, Pawlenty and Sarah do, it would suprise me if the first three don't divide the moderate vote. It may work better for conservatives this time.

If DeMint runs as well, that would be the perfect scenario for Romney to sneak in like McCain did.

"I absolutely agree that he’d clean Obama’s clock in any debate"

"Presidential races are brutal and vicious. Newt is a non-starter."

Exactly so on both counts.

BUT

why can't Newt be the factotum of the eventual candidate? Why can't Newt be Henry Higgins? He's a professor, for God's sake. Rahm Ernst, er, Emanuel is a far uglier person inside and out than Newt -- and he's basically running the country!

The Palinstinians will flame away, but what’s new?
Palin has the weakest candidate against 0bama, and she will ensure his reelection.

We’re going to need someone who can actually beat 0bama in a debate, not just beat him, but destroy him with facts.
Gingrich is the best person for this. He will not lose a debate. Sadly, Palin couldn’t even handle the Dumbest Man in the Senate last time. She and her RINO buddy McCain already lost to 0bama and Biden once. Running a proven loser against the same guy again will yield the same results. These are just the hard stubborn facts.

For me, there is no candidate I want to be president so bad that I am willing to risk reelecting 0bama for the longshot chance. And there is no potential candidate in the GOP field that I am so opposed to that I would throw away a sure thing to get 0bama out of office, and that includes Palin. If she was a strong candidate, and consistently lead in the polls as the silver bullet against 0bama, then I would lead the parade for her. But the facts say just the opposite.

I think McCain was really surprised when they turned on him. He expected more help from his MSM "friends".

He might have been the worst candidate on the GOP side in the past 30 years.

Re #73

I’m pretty sure you’re just responding in general rather than to me in particular but just to set the record straight I don’t support Sarah Palin for a presidential run.

Certainly Gingrich and Romney and many others are speaking constantly against Obama but of course the Palin cult club on FR overwhelm the forum with Palin threads. Palin is a joke that has been exposed long time ago. Obama and his socialists wish with all their hearts that she will be the Republican nominee in 2012 but fortunately for the Republic she will be crushed in the primaries and she will not be the Republican nominee.

However, his personal history is disastrous for any presidential aspirations. Everyone makes mistakes, and his have been public, and they have every appearance of callousness. In the vicious climate of a presidential campaign, he would be buried.

I realized during the budget showdown in 1995 that's Newt's greatest strenth was as a "behind-the-scenes" organizer/strategizer. As a public leader he is horrible, he comes across as too abrasive and nothing gets done.

I think Newt is the GOP's Carville and that he is perfect in that role.
