I get a kick out of all these pronouncements that Barack Obama is doomed to be a one-term president. In fact, Id put his odds of re-election at this point at roughly 2-1 in favor, for several reasons.
One is history.
In the second year of his presidency, Obamas job approval rating is hovering in the high 40s. The most recent Rasmussen numbers have him at 49 percent approval, 50 percent disapproval. Gallups numbers are 47/46. Given the troubled economy, those are actually very strong numbers. For example, compare them to Ronald Reagans numbers in 1982, which was the Gippers second year in the White House at a time of significant if less traumatic economic turmoil.
As Gallup notes:
The publics view of the economy remained sour, and the presidents ratings during 1982 stayed concomitantly low, in the 40% range, ending the year at 41%. The 1982 midterm elections were not good ones for Reagan and for the GOP. The Republicans lost about 25 seats in the House.
Obamas numbers are considerably stronger than those of Reagan at a comparable time in his presidency. In fact, by the beginning of 1983, Reagans job-approval numbers fell to 35 percent, yet as we all know he went on to defeat Walter Mondale in a landslide in 1984, pulling 59 percent of the vote compared to Mondales 41 percent.

Vigilance had better be the keyword in 2010 and 2012. Remember Al Franken, the battle cry!
I kind of agree with this guy - do you ever hear the crowds cheering at one of his speeches? SICKENING!!! What’s WRONG with those people???!
Jay Bookman: Turd Polisher
McCain, Romney, Gingrich...I’d say they all line up with Mondale as far as appealing challengers.
Palin - probably damaged goods, thanks to McCain’s election minions, though she can repair her image. But likely not before 2012.
Huckabee - I really like the guy personally, but he’s put holes in his own boat.
Sooooo...time for a dark horse. Who’s out there?
Colonel, USAFR
This is why the Socialist have undermined the morality and are anti-religion.You have to have a large % of voters with no pride or work ethic willing to vote fore the meager crumbs doled out by the Socialists. They are taught to hate the evil capitalist but fail to realize they are voting for a monopoly of Communist party elites who will treat them worse than the capitalists they revile. Idiots. The Republic will not survive this one.
The other half is made up of folks that will vote for six different "Conservative" candidates depending on which agenda they support. Unless a real consensus is reached among Conservative voters early in the election cycle, Obama will be a two term president, and America will continue its descent into hell.
Mr. Bookman engages in a feeble attempt at humor.
There was someone on the radio the other day that predicted he would be driven out of office and forced to resign over some corruption scandal, that would make Nixon look like a altar boy..............
It all depends on who challenges him. A sitting President HAS to be beaten in the election, because they have any number of inherent advantages. Unless things absolutely collapse and he is truly run out of town, it all depends on who is running and how well they can out campaign the campaigner in chief.

True, true, true!
The GOP position of passively being less awful is not going to get them anywhere except extinct.
Whistling through the graveyard.
Don't forget the mushy-middle independents. They need to be educated by conservatives but if conservatives are busy eating their own... well, that's an ugly picture that never wins elections.
I remember back when I was smoking pot, I thought how screwed up the world would be if everybody was on drugs. Well here we are, all screwed up...

We are on our third administration in a row with a history of recreational drug or alcohol abuse at some point in their lives.
We see the results, I think.
Not any more. I'd take it. I'd take NIXON at this point.
Let's see - since the end of World War 2, well within the life span of almost all of the existing people who are likely voters, how many Democratic Presidents were reelected based on their own 4-year performance?
Trueman - had a partial term after FDR died, won in 1948 but lost in 1952.
Johnson - had a partial term after JFK was assassinated, won in 1964 but didn't/wouldn't run in 1968.
Carter - 1976 to 1980.
Clinton - 1982 - 2000. The exception because he ran, very hard, to the center after 1994.
The Presidents who won a second term based on their performance were all Republicans.
So, will BHO run towards the center to be reelected in 2012 like Clinton did? That's the real issue not all of the false flags raised in this editorial.
That would be great. I’d like to see that. I’m afraid, though, that we’d face rioting as we’ve never seen it before, because, you know, “The Man” would be out to get the black guy.
The other problem is that Joe Biden would be our POTUS. What a dumba$$. Then, of course, there’s the guy who would be his VP. AWK!
This will be made easier for BHO with big GOP wins in the 2010 Congressional election... just as the GOP Congress facilitated Bill Clinton's run to the center and helped produce the famed budget surpluses the Democrats now claim were the result of Clinton's presidency.
I KNEW Ronald Reagan.....
Barry, you ain’t no Ronald Reagan.
