IDF Releases Map of Hizbullah Targets
INN News ^ | 7/10/2010 | Hillel Fendel

The IDF has taken the unusual step of publicizing some of its “targets banks” in southern Lebanon – buildings in southern Lebanese villages that Hizbullah has taken over for the storage and launching of long-range rockets.

It has long been known that Hizbullah uses quiet villages nestled in the hills of southern Lebanon to stockpile weapons and rockets. The IDF has now announced openly that it knows precisely which buildings to target if and when the Third Lebanon War breaks out.

The first war fought by Israel in Lebanese territory took place in the summer of 1982, and was known as Operation Peace for Galilee. 675 Israeli soldiers were killed, as were nearly 10,000 Syrian and PLO fighters. The Second Lebanon War, in the summer of 2006, between Israel and Hizbullah, cost Israel 119 military casualties and 42 civilian dead, with an estimated 500-600 enemy dead.

Col. Ronen Marli, commander of the Western Brigade in the Galilee Formation, briefed military reporters on the general direction of Israel’s plans. “From my standpoint, it [war] could be tomorrow, or next year. I have to be ready at all times.”

He told them that the Lebanese village of Al-Khiam, just a few kilometers from Kiryat Shmonah, Metulah, and other Israeli towns, currently has some 200 rockets, each with a range of between 20 and 40 kilometers.

Col. Marli showed unprecedented pictures of the houses of Al-Khiam, with the buildings that are “untouchable,” such as hospitals, schools and the like, colored blue. The red-colored structures are used to house and launch rockets; they will be Israel's targets in the next war.

The IDF says it has a list of thousands of such targets.

“Kirk, Spock, and three crew members (including Galloway and Tamura) beam down and are met by Mea 3 and a security detachment of two who take them to Anan 7 and members of the High Counsel. Anan 7 claims that Eminiar VII has been at war with Vendikar, the third planet in the system, for 500 years. However, no evidence of warfare is evident to the landing party who witness a fusion bomb “attack.” In fact, Yeoman Tamura’s tricorder shows no radiation disturbances, despite Anan 7’s claim that half a million people have just been killed. A counterattack is ordered by Anan 7 and carried out by Sar 6’s activation of the “attack unit.” Spock realizes that the war is being fought by computers which calculate casualties and that the citizens who are declared “dead” are then required to report to disintegration chambers.”

My guess Israel is telegraphing to Hizbollah: “We know where you are and the locations of your weapons”.

but why would you want to inform your enemy about that? they’ll just relocate.

also, i wonder if these are the real targets.

The Israelis have been doing a lot of recon work around the Southern Lebanon area. They have aerial photos(both taken by plane and satellite). They can move it but not without the “eyes in the sky” noticing.

If I were in charge of storing the munitions, the first thing I would do is begin moving stuff to those "untouchable" locations.

There is no doubt that is where Hezbollah will move them. They did in the 2006 war.

My feeling is that the Israelis don't know where (all) the targets are, but their enemy will reveal their locations by hurriedly moving.

Also: I have a feeling the blue zones won't be as untouchable as all that. The Israelis will arrange 'work accidents'.

There is courtesy and honor in warning Hizb’allah’s hostages
that they will be collateral damage shortly if the terrorists are not stopped.

The danger is that the terrorists now know which fortifications successfully hide their rockets and WMD.

Exactly. And if we're lucky, Hizbullah might blow themselves up in a few locations when handling the munitions.

When Israel fights, it always fights two simultaneous wars.

One is against the enemy, the other is against the media and World opinion(come to think of it, another enemy).

This is as much notice to the other enemy as the first.

It is telling the World to not bitch and moan that Israel is being indiscriminate, or targeting civilians. It is telling the World and media ahead of time, we will attack the enemy where it hides. If you are worried of the consequences do something now to to stop the terrorists, before hostilities break out.

Not that it will make any difference, the media will still make Israel look savage.
