EPA verdict still out on Taiwan tanker, “A Whale”
Flopping Aces ^ | 07-04-10 | Mataharley

When the heck is the media going to wake up, and start putting pressure on the O'admin and his enviro Nazi EPA and Lisa Jackson? Just as the the Costner centrifuges, and their newly finished barge have faced delays, obstruction, and limitations with EPA regulations over bilge water discharge, the converted Taiwanese tanker, "A Whale", faces the same dilemma.

The Taiwanese-flagged former tanker named the A Whale is the length of 3 ½ football fields and stands 10 stories high. It just emerged from an extensive retrofitting to prepare it specifically for the gulf, where officials hope it will be able to suck up as much as 21 million gallons of oil-fouled water per day.

The ship looks like a typical tanker, but it takes in contaminated water through 12 vents on each side of the bow. The oil is then supposed to be separated from the water and transferred to another vessel. The water is channeled back into the sea.

But the ship has never been tested, and many questions remain about how it will operate. For instance, the seawater retains trace amounts of oil, even after filtering, so the Environmental Protection Agency will have to approve allowing the treated water back into the gulf.

"This is a no-brainer," said Louisiana State University environmental sciences professor Ed Overton. "You're bringing in really dirty, oily water, and you're putting back much cleaner water."

Yes, definitely should be a "no brainer". But then, "no brains" is what we have when you're dealing with agencies, appointees and a POTUS who remains anal on environmental regulations... even in the face of catastrophic events.

Sounds like the EPA might just be a bunch of politicians rather than a knowledge based group. Who would have thunk!!!

The South will rise again. From Arizona, to Texas, to Louisiana, to the rest of the Gulf coast, I expect people to start openly talking about revolution. Obama’s boot is on their throat, and it’s real clear that those red states can all go to hell as far as he’s concerned.

Well, if you listen to Kook to Kook AM, as I did today, the word is that the leak, as shown on the internet, is really only a leak.
The real gusher is said to be a 15 mile long crack on the sea floor, gushing millions of gallons per day, and compounded by a massive methane bubble that may blow and cause a tsunami that will wipe out all of the gulf coast, and all of Florida.
The ships are being kept away to hide the certain disaster.

With those sweet words I will now go to bed. 11 PM here.

They’re liberal bureaucrats. They study a situation endlessly, and their “conclusion” is predetermined by ideological considerations only.

When did the EPA began to rule the world? Actually had it not been for ridiculous rules from this organization to drill so many miles off shore and so many 'feet deep'...mile +, had a blow-out of a well happened, fixing the problem would have been easier. The EPA is at fault and Obama could over ride them in a heart beat....but he won't as it is not in his best interest.

This is insanity by the EPA. What conceivable environmental impact could this or other challenged clean up methods have compared to 100 thousand barrels of oil being pumped into the ocean every day. Blind adherance to green governmental regulations has become more important than actually rescuing the environment. I think this betrays the real agenda of these people.

Same in UK.

They have an apt expression:

Health and Safety going crazy.

Is there any question the real agenda of the EPA is to destroy American industry?

What better place to test The Whale, then in a oil spill?

If they cared at all and were not trying to use this crisis, obama would wave the red tape and turn the world loose to fix it..........oh wait that is too much like a free market, it might prove gov't is only in the way.

For an untested vessel, I think it prudent to run a few tests before giving the green light.

I am willing to bet that not 10% of gubmint workers understand the stupidity of that position.
