Rep. Bob Etheridge (D-N.C.) on Monday apologized for behaving aggressively during a confrontation on the street with a young man who claimed to be a student.
"I deeply and profoundly regret my reaction and I apologize to all involved," he said in a statement released by his office.
A video of the incident, in which Etheridge can be seen swatting at a camera and grabbing the young man by the coat collar, appeared online Monday morning.
"Throughout my many years of service to the people of North Carolina," Etheridge said, "I have always tried to treat people from all viewpoints with respect. No matter how intrusive and partisan our politics can become, this does not justify a poor response. I have and I will always work to promote a civil public discourse."

Wish he would - it’s not only for him but for America, IMO.
Sincere? LOL! AFTER the video goes viral and while his butt is on the line.
...five days or more after the fact. Sure.
The title says it all...like all Democrats, he is apologizing for getting caught.
Instant political damage control doesn’t count as a sincere apology.
His defense was he had a bad day. Wonder how the kid’s day was, after being manhandled by this sicko.
I’m with you girl, If I could press charges I would! I’m sick of this crap!
Go ahead and apologize. I say “tell it to the judge.”
The more I look at the pictures, it looks like the kid is from a private high school or even as young as a middle school student.
Too little, too late, press charges, son.
Excellent. Maybe with a ?.
We've been having a bad day since November 4, 2008. But, we don't go around violently grabbing kids and shaking them down...
One word.... Video
Ummmm .. yeah, okay, how did I miss that reference? {rolls eyes}
Anyway, thanks for the link, very nice. I saw Styx in Detroit in the late 70's. Good concert! Have you seen them in concert recently?
No matter how intrusive and partisan our politics can become, this does not justify a poor response.Yeah, that guy on the sidewalk asking a question was just the *height* of intrusiveness, wasn't he?
What’s the frequency Kenneth?
Exactly. This was just a downpayment on genuine contrition and antonement. Charges and a day in court should still follow.
“WHO’ER YOU? TELMUH WHO’YARE. WHO’ER YOU, BO’AH???”
Yeah you can. For him to a)resign and b) be prosecuted. Personally, I’d like him to try that on me. He would have been on his hands and knees looking for his nuts.
If no charges are brought on this low life that can only mean one thing. The victim was notified by the irs that he could be facing an audit.Just like the ole clintoon days.
