Here's a dose of reality.
The father of teen sailor Abby Sunderland told The Post yesterday that he's broke and had signed a contract to do a reality show, "Adventures in Sunderland," about his family of daredevil kids weeks after she set off on her doomed and dangerous solo sail around the globe.
Laurence Sunderland, a sailing instructor who lives in the middle-class Los Angeles suburb of Thousand Oaks with his pregnant wife and seven kids, opened their home to film crews four months ago.
"The show might be about family, it might be about Abigail's trip. It's something that was shopped around," he said.

Man, newspapers can be nasty. Guy calls up, hawks his story, lets a few details slip, bam, they have a hitpiece.
They probably did actually think that she would make it all right. Her brother did, so why not her? Or so they thought.

I doubt it pal. Thousand Oaks is not middle class. It is upper middle class to wealthy. The guy might have lost his business under Obamanomics. Who knows? Thanks for assuming the worst.

From what? She had two French fishing boats filled to the gunnals with young French fishermen rushing to her safety in the middle of the ocean ~ none of them having seen a woman in 3 months!

What a shameless media whore. He sent his daughter out for a winter sail around the southern ocean, a time of year that fully-crewed professional racing boats won’t contemplate. All so she would not “age out” of the glory of being youngest.
The man has no shame.
But it's not going to stop until people stop buying the product -- and I see no evidence of that happening. Sigh.
Because of the Obama Depression the market is slack ~ he may have had one leftover.
