GM kicks ‘Chevy' to the curb

Don't call it Chevy.

General Motors leaders are asking Chevrolet employees to refrain from the shorthand etched in America's consciousness for decades. Or, as the New York Times put it, "If General Motors has its way, you won't be driving your Chevy to the levee ever again."

The Times quoted this company memo sent Tuesday: "We'd ask that whether you're talking to a dealer, reviewing dealer advertising, or speaking with friends and family, that you communicate our brand as Chevrolet moving forward.

"When you look at the most recognized brands throughout the world, such as Coke or Apple, for instance, one of the things they all focus on is the consistency of their branding," the memo continued. "Why is this consistency so important? The more consistent a brand becomes, the more prominent and recognizable it is with the consumer."

Call your crap whatever you want, never will purchase any product you ever produce anyway.

Stiff your creditors, then lie about paying off your debts... absolute crap.

The American public in general, despite the efforts of the GM Ivory Tower execs, will never stop using Chevy.

I don't know about that. After all, they got us to stop calling it Frisco.

Chevy or Chevrolet or Cherry or Crap. By any name it is still a Government Motors automobile.

It's all Government Motors to me too.

Maybe it worked with you, but I and others still say Frisco.

I have said Chevy for going on 50 years, I’ll decline and will not toss in a quarter.

"I guess the next step in this evolution is to rename it the "obama".

Wouldn't it be "obamawagon"?

This kind of thinking is why GM will fail.

Dinah Shore was beautiful

She was. She was more in my Dad's generation than mine, but I remember her as being quite classy and lovely. We need more woman like her today.

Remember when ATT bought NCR and changed its name to ATT ...the just about went broke!

I remember when they renaming Western Electric and decided on 'Lucent'.

My first thought was, "Do you really think it's a good idea to name a company after Lucifer?"

. I co-owned a BMW dealership in the 80’s. Funny, they never forget to put the “squeeze” on the dealers ;-)

I can't tell you how many 5-point plans I've heard that have point 1 being, "The Dealer will send the Company an order for such and such amount of stock material."

Points 2, 3, 4 and 5 never came to fruition.

“When you look at the most recognized brands throughout the world, such as Coke...”

This idiot just countered his own whining...Coke is short for Coca Cola. But I guess you shouldn’t expect much from a government company.

I've got a 1998 Chevy Z-71, just the latest in a number of Chevy pick-ups from 1971 forward (bought a '71 3/4-ton Camper Special in 1978 while stationed in CA). All but one of them were bought used.

I will NEVER by a brand new, GOVERNMENT MOTORS, "Chev-ROLET" (or ANY other gov-run, left-wing union-puke-made GM or Chrysler product) as long as big-government runs the show and idiotic asshole bureaucrats/government owned and selected "executives" have nothing better to do than sh*t on YEARS of history and tradition by forcing employees to call their cars "Chevrolet" rather than "Chevy".

Ludicrous and outrageous is what we have come to expect from the turds running the country right now (soon to be FIXED, by US, the people).
