FBI cash funded Sloot 'slay' trip

Federal agents trying to build an extortion case against Joran van der Sloot secretly gave him the cash that wound up funding his trip to Peru, where he killed a young woman exactly five years after the disappearance of Natalee Holloway, The Post has learned.

Van der Sloot tried to shake down Holloway's mother by offering information about her daughter's 2005 disappearance, and agents decided to set him up with a $25,000 payoff, a source told The Post yesterday.

An intermediary acting under the direction of the FBI gave van der Sloot the dough in Aruba on May 10 -- and four days later, he flew to Peru, where he allegedly murdered 21-year-old Stephany Flores in his Lima hotel room.

Van der Sloot was free to travel because after the money was given to the 22-year-old Dutch national, the feds didn't promptly file charges against him. US authorities also did not ask that he be detained in Aruba, even after officials there warned that he was about to leave the island, the source said

I actually heard someone on HLN suggest that the girl was murdered because Beth Halloway gave Joran money.

Evidently facts have no place at all on CNN’s HLN.

After the dog and pony shows we've seen in Aruba - along with the rumors that some autorities were bought off - it was probably a smart move to let him get outside of that country to a place that would be serious about prosecuting the cretin.

No way to know he'd commit such a heinous murder in such a short time, knowing he was under surveillance.

Tragic at it turned out, he is finally done for - and Peruvian jails, we understand, are no picnic.

They've got him cold, he killed the daughter of a prominent Peruvian, daddy is dead and can't come to the rescue and I understand he and ma-ma are on the outs. Stick a fork in him.

I support the death penalty, as a rule. In this case, since it's the Peruvian jails he'll be in, I hope he just sits and rots year after year. (Of course, general wisdom has it he won't last long there. Those prisons are bad enough - but he killed one of their own...brutally. And I hope the authorities check his movements of the last 5 years with the unsolved murders of young women in those areas. If he could kill a young person so brutally, in such a fit of rage - for what HE considers justification "SHE VIOLATED MY PRIVACY!" it's quite probable there are other victims in his wake.)

I think the case is rather a typical FBI operation: perp contacts victim in shake down attempt (in this case, one of the most twisted on record: blackmailing the parents of the girl you murdered!); victim contacts FBI, FBI sets up the sting with seed money. They would hardly advertise that it wasn't the Halloways money and blow the case ahead of time.

Many will vilify the FBI for not arresting him in ARuba - but ARuba had this guy time after time - and time after time, turned him loose again - amid rumors of ineptness and bribery. I suspicion the FBI wanted to get him to another country where he wouldn't be turned loose. No one could have foreseen he, while knowing he was under surveillance, would commit another murder. This one was not premeditated. He just came unglued and blew. At least, his reign of insanity is over, forever. He will NOT be set loose in Peru.

” He will NOT be set loose in Peru. “

He’s trying to set it up as a “crime of passion.” 6 to 20 in Peru.

He just came unglued and blew...

Did he? did he just "come unglued" five years to the day that the Holloway murder was alleged to have happened?. It's more coincidence than I can handle. I think it may be more that Van der Sloot is a ritualistic sociopath. But that's My 2 cents.

There's a good possibility it won't fly, for several reasons, among them: He killed the daughter of a prominant Peruvian; he killed a Peruvian citizen; his daddy with his big bucks bribery money is dead; he's evidently on the out with the rest of family; Aruba isn't handling it.

IOW, he's on his own, financially and otherwise.

I agree with your thoughts. five years to the damn DAY was no coincidence whatsoever, none.

He’s about to become the featured item on the daily menu in his cell block: “Prison Burrito” which is soft Dutch white bread stuffed with Peruvian pork.

Another odd coincidence — Van Der Sloot was supposedly in Peru for a Texas-Hold-Em tournament.

Now, there’s a European born player on the pro poker circuit, Gus Hansen, that physically resembles Van Der Sloot.

Just trying to understand Van Der Sloot’s obviously-deranged mind - was Van Der Sloot fantasizing himself, or trying to reinvent himself, as Hansen?

In this psychos mind, he was justified because by looking him up on his computer , she "violated my privacy."

POS.

But if he can go off so easy and so violently, I hope the FBI and all authorities involved will track his comings and goings for the past 5 years and see if it matches with similar, unsolved murders.

I would not be surprised to learn that he didn't go 5 years without other episodes.

If He really is a sociopath, this is consistent with that type of behavior. This is what is called "upping the ante". Van der Sloot got away with it once (possibly more), so he escalates the behavior. You see this with serial killers. They intentionally leave clues, often mocking law enforcement for their predictability and ineptness. Or they do things in a ritualistic manner. Specific dates, places, etc. are important to some. When I heard the murder was five years to the day, I thought, we're getting into serial killer territory here.

I was thinking that also. it would not surprise me one bit if he did not ‘celebrate’ and kill a woman on the second, third and fourth ‘anniversary’ of the NH murder also.

“physically resembles Sloot”

Poor guy! I have a Dutch friend whos son physically resembles VD Sloot to a remarkable degree, he is quite a bit older than VDS but it is shocking how much they look alike.

Keep in mind the whole "touched my computer" thing is based soley on his confession. I doubt every word of it, and suspect that what really happened in that hotel room is something altogether different.

Old Deck Hand — you’ve explained elsewhere that the NON-arrest of JVDS is not the fault of the FBI, much the local Birmingham FBI Office, but rather is the fault of Eric Holder and the Obama Justice Department.

A possible scenario is that he wanted to “remain silent” but that was just laughed at. The authorities may have told him that he was going to get convicted, it was a matter of degree. If he admitted to killing her in a crime of passion, he would get a certain amount of time. However if he did it with pre-mediation it would go very very badly for him in prison. I think they offered him a deal and he took it.

I suspicion different.

Sometime after he was seen going into the room with her, he left to get coffee and snack and was caught on camera coming back to the room with 2 coffees/snack.

She may well have, while he was gone, out of curiosity, GOOGLED his name - and boom - the whole ugly history came up along with the newest - his blackmailing of the parents of the girl he murdered.

I further suspicion she wanted out of there but didn't make it before he came back - he said "she tried to escape" -

He totally lost it when he saw that she had found him out...ans would likely alert as to is whereabouts
