I actually heard someone on HLN suggest that the girl was murdered because Beth Halloway gave Joran money.
Evidently facts have no place at all on CNN’s HLN.
I think the case is rather a typical FBI operation: perp contacts victim in shake down attempt (in this case, one of the most twisted on record: blackmailing the parents of the girl you murdered!); victim contacts FBI, FBI sets up the sting with seed money. They would hardly advertise that it wasn't the Halloways money and blow the case ahead of time.
Many will vilify the FBI for not arresting him in ARuba - but ARuba had this guy time after time - and time after time, turned him loose again - amid rumors of ineptness and bribery. I suspicion the FBI wanted to get him to another country where he wouldn't be turned loose. No one could have foreseen he, while knowing he was under surveillance, would commit another murder. This one was not premeditated. He just came unglued and blew. At least, his reign of insanity is over, forever. He will NOT be set loose in Peru.
