I could not agree with you more, but it’s much more than that. There is an element within that culture that is promoting that kind of life and this is why I do like when our government gives help to faith-based initiatives that work in the city. Only when people recognize deep within their souls the wrong of impregnating multiple women, fornication, expecting money without working, and so on, will this kind of nonsense begin to wane.
I love visiting there myself. Have fun and hope the weather is good.
It happened here in Cleveland as well. Euclid Beach was essentially killed by this kind of stuff.
The thing is, when the gov’t isn’t there to alleviate the consequences of not following God’s laws,
the consequences themselves “force” people to seek to live by those laws.
Plenty of people ill not go to Six Flags in NJ because of out of control criminal teens. It used to be a place for family fun. You just never know what bunch will be roaming so we go elsewhere.
we just moved to Memhpis, and still havent gone to the zoo. We love the childrens museum though. I plan to take the girls on a cool day this summer, and definately not free day.

I've observed that. In Louisville a few years ago they had to ban the Kentucky Derby block parties because some folks thought it would be great fun to jump crime tape and taunt the police before the shooting victims had even been evacuated! If the welfare checks ever stopped, cannibalism would quickly ensue.

You can take the animal out of the zoo, but.. no. You can take an animal to the zoo, but.. no. You can take the.. Oh, whatever. Just fence the whole place and don’t let ANY of the animals out.
Also, the Pink Palace has a summer program where they offer a free 3 month membership for the summer. We did it last year and signed up again this year.

I home school for a few reasons. Mainly my daughter's health issues which cleared right up after a few months out of that school. The other is I refuse to have my child taught the bs the schools now teach. I want her to have a childhood & not have to hear about gays in 1st grade. Or any of the moronic stuff they were trying to teach her. I find home school is less stressful on both of us, cheaper & my child is now above a grade. I don't worry about bullies or some teacher molesting her. For us it works wonderfully. For some it won't as you pointed out. But the mothers could look in Charter schools or take a firmer hand in their child's lives & upbringing.
That’s unfortunate. Hopefully as their ticket sales decline they’ll do something.
Homeschooling is a wonderful way to teach children. I agree with everything you said. I know exactly what is happening in the schools and it is even worse than many people think. The radicals really have permeated academia and now they want us to teach children to be “activists” to transform society. They try to make it look like all they want to do is make it fair for all people - similar to civil rights and women’s rights - so anyone who whines looks evil. I mean, let’s face it, who would ever say that all people should not be treated equally. However, it’s much more nefarious than that. Very complicated. I have been accumulating a lot of research on this topic since I have to combat it daily in my education classes at college. Thankfully, I am older so they can’t indoctrinate ME.
Some parents try very hard to keep their kids out of gangs and many lose their kids to the gangs. These parents work hard, love their kids, and have no resources. None. I don’t think some people writing on here really have a clue. If your grandma was a crack addict and your grandpa was MIA and that’s how your mama grew up and then she had you when she was 14 because her cousin impregnated her, how well do you think you will be raised? Seriously. As for respect and manners, many of them are just trying to survive. My friend teaches 4th grade. One of her students fainted at home because a rat was in her bed. The dad killed it. Do you understand? My friend said lots of her students have rats in their apartments.
I will say it again. You have the right to teach your child in any way you see fit and our government has no right to try to take that away from us. Your reasons for doing so are valid and intelligent. However, if you think for one second that you can insulate your kid from what is happening elsewhere, you are dreaming. Even the Chinese emperors learned that when they put down the peasants, they revolted.
I came from North Jersey & lots of kids I grew up with had rats. However they had grandmothers who taught them if the moms couldn't or wouldn't. Sadly the family unit has broken apart. As for wanting Sassy to have a childhood I do my best but I do not insulate her. She reads FR often behind me as I am on here. She knows just what is going on in the world & can't wait to be a FReeper.

Homeschooling requires DIRECTING their child’s education, not always having to do it. If they’re not capable, they can get together and find someone who is.
And you’re right about teaching the kids to behave. If the child won’t behave, then even homeschooling isn’t going to work, and I’ve seen that.
That was my first thought, too: It doesn't sound like much of a "fight" (thank goodness).

About 10 years ago, my husband and I took our children to that very amusement park for the first time. It took us awhile to realize we’d just walked in on some kind of gang “truce” organized by a radio station. It was a fun day with no trouble, but, obviously, the park has been having problems for a long time.
You make many good points. We know that a lot of inner city moms are on public assistance and probably don’t work so they would have time to home school but I sure would not advocate that. I have many friends who are homeschooling or homeschooled their kids. Meanwhile, it does take dedication, discipline and direction (like my alliteration?). These women don’t have the tools to do this kind of thing. They often don’t really even know how to properly parent their kids. The home is not conducive to teaching either. And this does not even touch on the realities of learning disabilities, fetal alcohol kids, etc.
