That was the worst shock of the story. Only ten days? But what else do they do?

The underlying story here (which was easily guessed) is that it was probably two rival gangs, so please don’t assume that all the kids are bad. The fact that they called in the gang task force indicates to me that this was the source of the problem. There were two schools at least. Gangs are a big problem in urban areas and until we can solve the problem with the breakdown of the family, gangs will continue to become “families” to many urban youths. Homeschooling is not a solution to all societal ills so I do not have a clue why you wrote this on here. Do you think that some of these single moms from the ghetto can homeschool their kids? Please advise. Thanks. (And I’m a huge proponent of homeschooling and would homeschool now if my son were of school age).

Detroit residents will remember this happening over and over at Boblo Island, the city’s amusement park. Basically put them out of business because families no longer felt safe there.

Stop subsidizing bastardhood.
Problem solved, in a generation or two.

so please don’t assume that all the kids are bad.
&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&

I **know** that all government schools are evil.

1) All government schools in this nation teach everything through the lens of a godless worldview. It is evil to teach children to think godlessly.

( And..government schools have been atheistic in their worldview since at least the days of my grandmother who born in 1894.)

2) All government schools teach children to be comfortable with socialism simply by attending. Every day that a child attends a government school he learns that the government has the police power to force their neighbor to pay for a service the parents want for tuition-free. Well?...If the government can use its powers to give the kid free school, why not a thousand other free things? It is evil to teach children to be comfortable with being socialist!

3) All government schools in this nation trash First Amendment Speech, press, assembly, and expression of religion are STRICTLY suppressed and the government imposes non-stop atheism on the minds of the children. This is EVIL!

4) All government schools teach child to be comfortable prisoners of the fascist state. In many ways government schools are minimum security PRISONS for children whose only crime was being born! Their First Amendment Rights are trashed. They are marched around to the sound of bells. They are told by the government when they can eat, rest, exercise, and even speak. Their buses look like prison work gang buses. Have you noticed how much school yards look like prison exercise yards. Then...If a child **RATIONALLY** rebels and refuses to cooperate, he is hauled before a judge and sentenced to hard-time prison.

But...There is **ONE** thing that government schools do very very well. They make groups of citizens furious with each other!

Since no school can be religiously, politically, and culturally neutral, citizens battle for control of the government school curriculum and policies. Hey! No wonder these citizen get mad. The prize is the hearts and minds of the next generation of voters.

toughening the little darlings up

100 little darlings fighting and only 3 injured? Sounds like they couldn't fight their way out of a paper bag.

It’s hard to fight well holding your pants up with one hand and jumping around like a grasshopper on a skillet.

Detroit residents will remember this happening over and over at Boblo Island, the city’s amusement park. Basically put them out of business because families no longer felt safe there.

Fewer families will likely visit the Cleveland zoo, now. But...Taxpayers in Cleveland, Ohio, and even across the nation will now pick up the increased tab for taking care of the animals.

By the way, there is a very big difference between homeschoolers visiting a museum or zoo and government school kids doing the same. The government kids race through the rooms and exhibits, literally pound all the buttons and are quickly hurried to the next exhibits by their teachers and chaperons. ( Hey! They've got to see the **whole** museum in one afternoon, you see.)

The families of homeschoolers often have a yearly pass, and visit often. These kids know the museum workers by name. They can actually **read** the explanations given on the exhibits. ( Imagine that! Being able to read!) They ask thoughtful questions. Many have prepared before coming by **reading** books from the library on their favorite topics. The museum workers faces light up with pleasure to see their little friends coming back again and again to study in depth the concepts presented. The homeschoolers are quiet and mannerly.

Yup. My children and I decided to brave the crowds and went to the zoo this past Monday. I figured that with Memphis city schools still in session, not attending on a “free afternoon” and the light to moderate rain fall lol....we were almost safe! I love going to the zoo when it’s pretty much just us and the zoo employees!

Homeschooling is not a solution to all societal ills
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

How do you **know** that? Or...Is this merely an assumption? Where are the studies? Are you merely parroting a bromide?

It is entirely possible that children in disadvantaged neighborhoods and from disadvantaged families might actually do better by NEVER attending their government assigned kiddie-prison( Oops! “school”). Their dysfunctional parents might actually find a way to do a better job ( as wacked out as they are) than their government school.

It is entirely possible that **all** children would actually do better being at home. Honestly,...Where are the studies that would prove this right or wrong?

And... There ARE government schools in this nation that are literally soooooo toxic that it would be better for the child to NEVER attend even if the consequence were he was completely illiterate and innumerate. YES, there are government schools **that** bad!

Finally...Do we really know how much learning actually happens in a government school? Where are the studies?

In meeting children who have been institutionalized for their education in government schools, I find ( absolutely EVERY TIME!) that their parents and the children themselves are working every bit as hard AT HOME in AFTERSCHOOLING as my kids did all day in homeschooling!

How much is a child learning in **afterschooling** as compared to what is being learned in the government school? Where are the studies? Maybe the government school is actually hurting, and retarding, the academic and social progress of children from good families!

( Capitals for emphasis only and not proof read)

LOL, Maybe they were fighting their way out of a bag of sorts. I guess it's harder than it looks.

I’d actually have been better pinging the homeschool ping list what with the way homeschoolers go to the zoo.

We always planned our field trips to the zoo at times I knew that schools would not be scheduling them, like at the beginning of the school year, or around the holidays and in the winter on some of those glorious nice days we sometimes get.

I was in a museum one time and the public school kids were running wild, screaming and yelling. Gone are the days when you were expected to behave at a place like that.

That makes sense. I would not want to be caught in the crossfire either. What really upsets me is it’s always these few gang bangers who ruin it for the kids who really are good kids but have been born into unfortunate circumstances. My brother and my best friend both teach in the inner city so I hear all the stories (even the ones that never make it to press and there are lots).
