IRVING, Texas -- Break out the parkas! The 2014 Super Bowl will be held in New Jersey and it won't be indoors.
NFL owners have voted to put the championship game in the new $1.6 billion Meadowlands stadium that's about to become home to the New York Jets and Giants. It does not have a roof and it will be February.

This should go over like a warm bowl of pus.
It will go down as one of the worst decisions in the history of the NFL. I was snowed in in Baltimore with 36 inches of snow this past Super Bowl. My flight was delayed for five days and I had to watch the game from a bar in Fells Point.
Last I looked, Baltimore is about 150 miles or more SOUTH of the Meadowlands.
Good. No more free passes to dome teams. If you can play in January outdoors in the cold to make it to the SB then you can play the SB outside as well
Cool, sans Leon Lett, Dallas plays great in the snow!
Sweet!
It’ll be Giants vs Jets. ;’)
No bottles allowed at The Meadowlands, and, of course, they do a pat down. But, liquor in Baggies worn in underwear fools ‘em every time.
SB48
JETS VS. COWBOYS!!!
Thoughts?
Hey, we agree on something for once !
One of the greatest ball games I have watched..
Oakland vs New England at Foxboro, Mass
Jan 2002.. 20 degrees with atleast 10 inches of snow..
Now THAT was a football game for the ages. Until that stupid “tuck” rule. Al Davis went into a PTSD haze after that.
Why? It is about time they had the game in the elements. Weather will not stop Packer fans or Bear fans from attending. Or these fans either.
Not that there is a snowball’s chance in hell that it would be in Soldier Field for some time.
Rain in the 30s is the absolute worst weather. I was at the infamous Halloween Monday night massacre of the Bears by the Packers and would undoubtedly found 30 degreea lower temps more bearable.
Rain in my face all night and my underwear was soaked.
LoL. Actually you could see better on the tv than in the stands at the Fog Bowl.
I sit in the South endzone and we could not see the goalposts after the fog rolled in. And it did roll in. Just started pouring over the stadium walls starting at the ground and rising.
Chicago has been stopped by snow briefly three times max in the 47 yrs I have been here. Baltimore is not equipped for snow like NYC or the major Northern cities but it managed to play a home game against the Bears after last years blizzard..
Oh, how I wish there could be a Super Bowl at Paul Brown Stadium, but alas, Mike Brown didn’t want a retractable roof.
Maybe some *normal* folks can get tickets now.
Celebs don’t like being uncomfortable.
Good idea.
This is real football, and if it turns out to be ice bowl 2 people will be talking about it forever.
What will they do about the half time show? How can they have one if it’s freezing rain or snow or the temps are 15 below zero?
What are they trying to prove by awarding the Super Bowl to a stadium that hasn’t even been opened in NJ (yes I live in NJ about 45 mins or 30 miles from the current Giants Stadium) in February? We have had some nice weather like this year in February but most of the time it is glacially cold.
I don’t think I would want to attend unless my Giants are in it and then I still would enjoy it more from my couch in front of my big screen TV in HD with replays and heat.
There’s photos of the game and stadium on nfl.com (Dec 20, 2009 - Week 15). Took a small army to clear the stadium but it was done.
Baltimore has learned how to remove snow since they had riots in the storm of ‘78. Nice 18” or so, I came back two days after the storm over dry roads in PA. Took us a day just to shovel out up there. Got to Baltimore and it looked like they were still passing the only snow shovel in the state around.
We got hit with a record snowstorm early this year, the cost was high but they kept the roads open. They started using concrete trucks for plows and ran the regular trucks almost nonstop for two days.
It was one of those snows where the “pushers” can’t clear the parking lots, you need a front end loader.
