IRVING, Texas -- Break out the parkas! The 2014 Super Bowl will be held in New Jersey and it won't be indoors.
NFL owners have voted to put the championship game in the new $1.6 billion Meadowlands stadium that's about to become home to the New York Jets and Giants. It does not have a roof and it will be February.

They are building a new arena in LA?
Domes and retractables suck! If you watch a game in the cold, you are more into it to try and stay warm. Watch a game in a retractable and its all about people watching. Football belongs outdoors. No difference than watching the conference finals in Jan.
“They are building a new arena in LA?”
Yep. Every week. In a different location.
Been doing it for about ten years now.
Just speaking from an Alaskan perspective, I was in New York once at that time of year, and it was lovely. Just a bit nippy from the breeze, but nothing that a solid coat couldn’t handle.
So it’ll be cold. Bring some liquid warmth in a little bottle. You know I mean coffee. LOL
For 40 years the NFL’s story has been the SB needs to be in a warm-weather/indoor site. But as soon as the NYC teams/politicos end up with a big construction bill to pay, boom, they get the SB. What a joke.
As I remember when the Bears played at Wrigley Field, there were quite a few BYOBs in December. And they were drinking the hard stuff, later supplemented by beer.
:o)
AWESOME! I want an SUPER ICEBOWL! 80 degrees and Palm trees is not playoff football.
The SB is usually around a 6:30 p.m. kickoff.
No matter, I hope it snows. I love playoff football in the snow. Bring it!
At least let ‘em play in 30 degree, dry weather, that is a great football setting, too.
“This is a big effin’ deal.”
Agreed .....but whatever band they get to play the halftime will freeze their maracas off and the money types who can afford to buy super bowl tickets will not be happy freezing either....
...will freeze their maracas off...
Love that line!
BTW Beagles will be better without McFlab but they will still suck.
It could only be better if they didn’t extend the TV timeouts for the increasingly stupid and expensive commercials and held a lottery for the tickets only open to fans of the two competitors.
The Superbowl is supposed to pit the two best football teams against one another in competition. Having a deliberately slowed tempo due to commercials after every play and never worrying about weather as a factor prevents that from happening.
Really. I mean New Jersey ain’t that cold. They must all be from the south or something.
Do we really want them playing football at the Super Bowl?
I am not sure I get the joke but I LMAO anyway!
This is great news, Real football is in any weather not just the tropics or worse, indoors.
Excellent. Football is best played in a mixture of mud, slush, blood and torn up natural turf.
Conference final is the real championship game, IMHO. Super Bowl doesn’t count.
If they have nasty weather, then it will just be more memorable. Bring on the cold!
