Obama will be on vacation in Chicago this Memorial Day, instead of presiding over Memorial Day ceremonies at Arlington. This may be the first time since the Civil War that a president will not pay respect to the veterans passed.
There is a big diffference between the American Cemetaries in Normandy, and the ratther small Abe Lincoln National Cemetary. Both in size and signifgence. Arlington symbolizes all those who died in the service of the Republic, not just those interned there. Normandy stands for the magnitude of the effort required to invade and free Europe from Hitler's clutches. Now if he'd gone to the Punchbowl, that would be somewhat more akin to Normandy, symbolizing as it does those who gave all to defeat Imperial Japan.
This is good news. One less communist to desecrate the hallowed ground of Arlington National Cemetery. Better that he never sets foot in Arlington again.
Who wants to bet he will choose to be buried there. I guarantee he does, just like Bill Clinton, which really thwarts my vow to piss on Clinton’s grave. I pray that Clinton is buried in Arkansas so I can make good on my vow.
Thanks for your response to that... I literally couldn’t even think straight after that comment, much less wage a defense against the implications he was trying to assert.

He’s an idiot. A dangerous idiot.
In the good old days, the President of the US was an AMERICAN, not a foreigner with an inferiority complex sublimated into arrogance.
My eldest made Eagle Scout last year. The Obama White House didn’t “do” congratulatory letters for Eagles last year. They may have changed their tune since; I really don’t know (and son doesn’t care).
Most of them are probably glad. I don’t think they feel terribly honored when he uses ‘props’.

Disgraceful. But then what else would we expect?
OK. I’ll take the “prepared comments” remark as a compliment since in a parallel life I occasionally write and manage internal corporate communications. I don’t work in radio.
I thank your family for their service, and we can agree to disagree. It is possible I do not know where you are coming from.
This thread has been composed of various opinions, from those who are glad he’s not stepping on sacred ground (and never should), to those who are mad because he is not, and a few who think there is too much being made of the situation. I’m part of the latter group.
Your point that he is heading out to Chicago for some R&R and will visit there simply because it happens to be convenient in relation to his travel plans is a good one.
In no way was my comment about importance of our war heroes in different cemeteries meant to disgust you. Sorry about that.
