(CNSNews.com) - Rep. Pete Hoekstra of Michigan, the ranking Republican on the House intelligence committee, says the resignation of Director of National Intelligence Dennis Blair is the result of the Obama administrations rampant politicization of national security and outright disregard for congressional intelligence oversight.
ABC News reported today that President Barack Obama would be accepting Blairs resignation tomorrow, and the Associated Press reported that the administration has already interviewed several candidates to replace him.
Hoekstra, who formerly served as chairman of the intelligence committee, issued a written statement saying that Blairs readiness to step down, considering his record of service to the country, was a disturbing sign of the stranglehold the Obama White House has placed on Americas intelligence agencies. Blair is a retired admiral.
Here is the full text of Hoekstras statement:
"Dennis Blair was the consummate public servant who dedicated much of his professional life to the safety and defense of our great nation. He pushed for openness, transparency and the participation of the congressional intelligence committees in conducting intelligence oversight. I had high hopes for his willingness to work with Congress on a bipartisan basis to ensure that Americas intelligence professional had the tools, resources and authorities they need to help protect our homeland.
"That a man who has willingly dedicated himself to the cause of our nations freedom would rather step down than continue to serve as Americas top intelligence officer is a disturbing sign of the stranglehold the Obama White House has placed on Americas intelligence agencies. Clearly, and understandably, Director Blair was frustrated by the White Houses micromanagement and sidelining of the Office of the Director of National Intelligence on national security issues.
"Blairs resignation is the result of the Obama administrations rampant politicization of national security and outright disregard for congressional intelligence oversight. Blairs resignation is disturbing and unfortunate. The concerns I have come from how the Obama administration conducts national security, not over the director of national intelligence, who they never allowed to do it.
"Congressional Republicans we will be watching closely who the president plans to name as a successor. Right now, the Obama administrations national security apparatus is broken, dysfunctional and in disarray. Dennis Blair was the one person you could count on for rationality among Holder, Napolitano and Brennanand hes the one the president let go."
Every freaking day this clown does something that makes people hate him even more, When will it end.
Boy. I don’t think there are too many on this forum who would read that and think “Hm. Is this a surprise to anyone?”
I see this as another step in inviting the attack needed as an excuse to suspend the constitution.
Not until someone else is sworn in. Each day he’s in office brings more damage to the country.
Why, Bill Ayres, of course!
Correct...I wonder if someone that is sane in the administration can steer him to someone that’ll do a halfway decent job.
Pete,
Partisan politics aside, several serious terrorist incidents were NOT detected by intelligence in advance.
If I was President, I would fire him, too.
That is what scares me. They are so hopelessly incompetent, naive and hostile towards this country, that they are going to cause a war. And not on purpose.
Through idiocy, negligence and arrogance, they are going to give encouragement to someone on this planet to do something terrible.
This reminds me so much of the 1930’s it frightens me. I certainly do not think they will fill the post with a competent person, do you? This is insane.
Good God. He looks positively evil in that bottom picture of him toasting.
I have serious doubts. Maybe someone competent could put their disdain of Obama aside and do what's best for the country if they were considered but that's a big if.
It looked to me like he was looking at his own reflection in the glass.
Although I am not certain of lines of responsibility in the WH, I understand he was tasked with the job of coordinating the various agencies, and reporting the info to the president. It seems the CIA has failed, not Blair. And, in the final analysis, the CIA answers to the president.
I think it’s official. I hate him.
You got it. Deliberate destruction of our government, culture, borders, economy, military, medical system, social security system, and Constitution.
That would be highly illegal, and besides there's the Secret Service.
[Good God. He looks positively evil in that bottom picture of him toasting.]
Well, duh!
He IS positively EVIL!
