TAMPA An off-duty FBI agent shot and killed an Army veteran Wednesday night after a confrontation and chase at MacDill Air Force Base, officials said.
It all started at the base's family camp, a recreational vehicle area at the south end of the base, said Col. Larry Martin, 6th Air Mobility Wing commander. The veteran was visiting the base when an altercation broke out. He took off on a motorcycle with security officials in pursuit, according to Martin.
"He became more and more aggressive as the pursuit continued," said Dave Couvertier, a special agent with the FBI.
When the motorcyclist arrived at the gate on S Dale Mabry Highway, he got to his feet and confronted an FBI agent, who was at the base on unrelated business, with a knife, Couvertier said.
The agent opened fire and shot the veteran at least one time, he said.
Rescue workers were summoned to help the shooting victim just outside the MacDill gate at 6:47 p.m. The victim died at the scene, according to Tampa Fire-Rescue.
No one else was injured, and the victim's name was not immediately disclosed.
"Our security forces personnel acted promptly to safeguard the base and its personnel," Martin said.

What part of the above are you having trouble understanding?
“Oh, you would be surprised what naive stupid people will do.”
You’ve got to learn not to trust what law enforcement says. They should NEVER be given the benefit of the doubt. Trust them at your peril...
He became more and more aggressive as the pursuit continued,
Well for one, how does one become more and more aggressive as they are being pursued? Does that mean they are going faster and faster?
Okay...
“It all started at the base’s family camp...The veteran was visiting the base when an altercation broke out. He took off on a motorcycle with security officials in pursuit...”

The key statement here is “confronted an FBI agent - with a knife”
And you state he was not a threat to security? I would disagree.
Must have been the “Don’t Tread On Me” T-Shirt he was wearing.
“Just because someone has a gun does not give Leos the right to kill them. Same with a knife”
Right. And you figure this how? By mindreading?
How can one know what the man with the gun or knife is thinking except that one doesn’t take out a gun or knife and threaten other people without the intention of using the weapon to kill or maim?
If someone has a gun or knife aimed at me and I can take them down with my firearm, I sure as Hell am not going to hesitate.
Give up. I have, it’s quite liberating. You cant teach a sheep to bark.
BigCinBigD Come at me with a knife in a threatening manor, ie trying to stab me. and I will shoot you in the head.
babygene: “Your an Idiot. The man is not going to do that if you have a gun. And thats not the way it was reported...”
babygene: The article is poorly written. I used to be a Paramedic and rest assured people do stupid things all the time.
LOL!
My sheep find me fascinating. If not for my silliness, they would never have tasted strawberries!

“Yup. I would have shot him.
I wouldnt have... If I had a revolver I wouldnt feel that threatened by someone with a knife. Its hard to believe he thought his life was in danger. I wouldnt be looking for an opportunity to kill somebody...”
So, you would have preferred being knifed???
“Your an Idiot. The man is not going to do that if you have a gun. And thats not the way it was reported...”
That’s strange. Many years ago when I took my CCW class the screened some videos about police officers who had been cut up by knife wielding perps. Their point was that it only takes a second for someone to close with you and cut you up or stab you.
“They should NEVER be given the benefit of the doubt. Trust them at your peril...”
Now THAT I can agree with.
“I wouldnt have... If I had a revolver I wouldnt feel that threatened by someone with a knife.”
And....how many times have you been threatened by someone with a knife?????
Your naivety shows that you have never been in that situation.
21 ft before you can clear leather, thats the rule IIRC ???
“21 ft before you can clear leather, thats the rule IIRC ???”
Probably depends on how hard they’ve been working out in the joint. :)
Mark my words. There is more to this story - a lot more. This is connected to something bigger.
Yeah, and if the guy is that close he can kill you even if you shoot him with a revolver. Unless they have ever fired a gun under stress chances are they will either miss or only wound the attacker.
