(CNSNews.com) - The pro-abortion left appears to be losing the battle for the heart and soul of the rising generation of Americans, according to new data released by the Gallup poll.
Americans in the 18 to 29 age bracket are now more likely than their elders to believe abortion should be illegal in all circumstances, according to the data released last week, and generally oppose abortion in greater numbers than Baby Boomers.
Since 1975, Gallup has been asking this question: Do you think abortions should be legal under any circumstances, legal only under certain circumstances, or illegal in all circumstances? The data released last week showed the five-year results for the period 2005-2009.
In that period, 23 percent of Americans 18 to 29 years old said they believed abortion should be illegal in all circumstances, while 51 percent said it should be legal only under certain circumstances, and 24 percent said it should be legal under all circumstances. None of the older age brackets equaled the 23 percent in the 18 to 29 age bracket who would like to see all abortions prohibited. Only the 65 or older age bracket exceeded the under-30s in the combined percentage who would like to see all abortions outlawed or see abortion legal only under certain circumstances.
Twenty-one percent of Americans 65 or older said they believed abortion should be illegal in all circumstances, while 59 percent said it should be legal only under certain circumstances, and 16 percent said it should be legal under all circumstances.
Only 17 percent of Americans in the 50 to 64 bracket said they believed abortion should be illegal in all circumstances, while 55 percent said it should be legal only under certain circumstances, and 26 percent said it should be legal under all circumstances.
Similarly, only 17 percent of Americans in the 30 to 49 bracket said they believed abortion should be illegal in all circumstances, while 53 percent said it should be legal only under certain circumstances, and 28 percent said it should be legal under all circumstances.
Perhaps it’s occurred to them that, with legal abortions, their own parents might have had them killed if they’d come along at an inconvenient time, and for some reason they are uncomfortable with that idea.
Yep, however some of us are converts too, and are lucky to have excaped the suction abortion machine.
I didn’t vote for Obama.
And this prolife crowd, 80 percent of McCain’s supporters are in this group. Did you just read “How to make friends and influence people?” because you are doing just spectacular.
I didn’t understand your post, was there a point?
The Hispanic vote for the proabortion party was even worse that the under 30 vote for the pro abortion party, 67% instead of 66%.
My Hispanic co-worker and his Hispanic girlfriend got PG earlier this spring.
He offered to marry her and raise the baby — or if she didn’t want to gt married, he and his family would raise the baby.
Her parents (Hispanic but from a different country) decided she would have an abortion. Partly because my co-worker was the wrong kind of Hispanic, if that makes sense. They did a lot of arm twisting and got her to agree.
She didn’t want the abortion and now she can’t sleep, he told us. He was pretty down about it all.
So sad.
Perhaps it’s because their peers have been slaughtered.
This is a small ray of light in a very dark world.
Lots of young adults out there whose very own mother slaughtered their own brother or sister for the sake of convenience...I’d sleep with one eye open in that house.
PTL
Likely because it’s been their generation that’s been decimated.
I think something that isn’t getting mentioned is that the context of Roe v. Wade was something that was very tied up in legal and political issues of legal equality for women. The left reinforced that artificial tie between the issues but it existed none the less.
In the minds of those over thirty, there was and still is a difficulty with understanding legal equality of the sexes brought about by the “my body — my decision” comic book arguement.
Our younger generation didn’t live through that historical parallel development and is able to look at each issue in a stand alone fashion becuase they had no stake in the correstponding political, social and moral struggles of the time. We all know the person who was very much involved in “women’s rights” that without that history would be against abortion in the manifest way it developed, but they can’t seperate the positions.
I hope they are just getting smarter.
Maybe. You have a volunteer armed force that has no staffing problems, fighting two wars.
KC Burke, that’s an interesting premise. One could only hope that this and the charge of racism would be more honestly evaluated by kids coming up.
Good news bump!
I’m always thankful for our blessings and this good news is a blessing.
Thank you for pinging me, dear friend.
