Former first lady Laura Bush has broken with her husband on the premier social issues of his administration and said she backs gay marriage and abortion.
After more than eight years of silence on the controversial issues, Mrs. Bush said in an interview with CNN's Larry KingTuesday, that gay marriage and abortion were points of contention with her husband, former President George W. Bush.
Mrs. Bush in recent weeks has been promoting her memoir "Spoken from the Heart," in which she writes about her life both before and after becoming first lady.
In response to a question about gay marriage, she said, "There are a lot of people who have trouble coming to terms with that because they see marriage as traditionally between a man and a woman. But I also know that, you know, when couples are committed to each other and love each other, that they ought to have, I think, the same sort of rights that everyone has."
Mrs. Bush said she and the ex-president "disagree" on legalizing same-sex marriage.

still looks creepy. like a wax figure with wrinkles over exagerated.
If our kid's school teacher or our preacher was promoting the benefits of abortion and gay marriage we'd have a cow.
Laura purposefully deceived us on her leftist espousals for the benefit of herself and her husband while they were in the White House as evinced by her not waiting a New York minute to lay it on us trusting suckers as soon as she could write and publish for profit. This little well-played trick of hers mirrors the subterfuges of liberals everywhere, doesn't it........so it doesn't surprise me.
She's entitled to her positions and little heresies, of course, but I don't want to see any further photos of her reading Peter Pandora or various fairy tales to adoring little kiddies at her feet ever again.

My inclination is to like Laura, but sadly she has lost her Conservative footing. Of course that somewhat ignores the 600 pound gorilla in the room, that she probably didn’t have Conservative footing to begin with.
Unfortunate indeed...
There is no relationship between her view of abortion and Sarah Palin's........only her husband's.
And her husband's view is as pro-life as Sarah's. Thankfully, he is being recognized for that, and is continuing to speak out for the sanctity of life, long past any so-called 'pandering' to the 'religious right' (never a true statement, ever).
In addition, Laura, in this same book and in interviews, has clearly stated that whatever was wrong with her babies, she would have them and love them. Just like Sarah, Todd, and Trig. Your 'suspicions' are completely wrong, mk.
btw, my husband married a young woman he found in a Baptist church choir. ;)
When you let me know what "conservative footing" Nancy Reagan had, get back to me.....
i’m willing to take that trade. if we can save all the babies for letting sinful people who chooses to live in sin.
let them live in sin as it does not affect us. i’m not in favor of welfare... so i’m not going to go into the business of moral welfare and attempt to save the gays from sin.
Not to be argumentative, but I’m still up in the air on whether George was more sane than Laura. IMO, these are two people who were given a great opportunity, and thinking they wanted to travel to NewHaven, they arrived at the train station just in time to jump on board the express to HoBroken, by mistake.
there in lies the problem and I suspect why obama would put this nominee in for the court.
Homosexuals get to know people they go to church not because they’re religious not because they’re interested but because they befriend people and then once they have gained trust they then tell them the homosexual lies about wanting to be left alone, to be just happy and love who they want etc.
Even on here a few posters have either said they know some homosexuals and they’re nice so they have no problem and pone elderly woman said she met a homosexuals guy at her church who was new and he was nice so now she has no problem with them.
If he gets her on the supreme court she will try and influence other judges into her agenda and play the victim like they always do.
They have tried to infiltrate the boy scouts, community groups, churches and even on here and it is sickening people fall for it.
I’ve seen on the homosexual websites telling others to get out there and get to know people and then bring them around to their agenda.
For those who say well this is not a problem I don’t care then I suggest they go tot heir parades, see how they roam public bathrooms, dog parks, walking trails, in the schools, getting hired etc
I am sick to death of hearing about homosexuals wanting rights and all it is , is based on their sexual turn on which is unnatural too
Please ping me to where I defended Nancy Reagan’s actions.
She’s a frail older woman, has been for years, and I’m not going to address her frailties.
Laura is an adult. She’s in full control of her faculties, and she is on shaky ground.
This is one more occasion when someone can’t deal with the truth when it relates to one of their favorite people.
As I recall Bush used her as a selling point in the 2004 re-election. She was America's first Lady sweetheart being compared with Kerry's entertaining (as in joke) rich elitist wife. I was taken in by her LB myself, but then again I was a huge Bush fan too.
This admission is clearly something she wanted to keep out of the press until husband Bush was out of office. Her views most likely reflect their daughter's liberal opinions that sound much like Megan McCains. This makes me think of Cheney's recent admission of his views on Open Homosexuality in the military(which would be a disaster) , I always figured those were his real views... but had to wait....
Ok, she was Pro-choice when she started out but after 8 years in the Whitehouse with her Pro-life husband in alignment with the Pro-life movement and she’s still Pro-Abortion! UGGHH! That says it all!
I agree. And Cheney, a guy that I like, was clearly way out of line with his advocacy of open overt homosexuality in the military.
I don’t like it when people who could be such a positive resource, destroy their credibility. At least I’m honest enough to address reality for what it is.
I was pretty sure Laura was shaky on some important matters. As long as she kept it to herself, it was her personal business. When she made it public, it became mine.
I'm not holding my breath.
These opinions tell us more about who she is selling her book to, then of GWB’s opinions (OH no, am I sticking up for GWB here??? LOL, out of character). Clearly she is pointing her book to a liberal (anything goes) Megan McCain type audience. The question is, who is reading it?
I am now.
Whatever the case, it gives people who wish to kill the unborn, one more person to point to that says it’s okay.
I’m not here to trash Laura, but I am disappointed and am going to express that.
I don’t think she has a clue how unfortunate this revelation is.
And quit supporting GWB, darn it. ;-)
I am deeply dismayed that Laura hasn't yet understood the importance of the sanctity of life from inception, but I would think that the best thing for us to do is to pray for her (and I do).
Your initial statement that this hurts Laura's "conservative footing" remains an incorrect analysis.
Oh.........and I deal with the truth all the time, but thanks for the psychological assessment of my inadequacy. :)
same creepy,,,,
why is michelle Obama’s wax figure so light skinned?
“Bush 41 was Pro-Abortion until he became Reagans VP and President himself.” Look at this Wiki piece about Prescott Bush 41’s Daddy and 43’s Granddaddy: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prescott_Bush
Look at His Politcal Career. Death runs deep with the Bushes.
Oh and looky here:
On December 2, 1954, Bush was part of the large (67-22) majority to censure Wisconsin Republican Senator Joseph McCarthy, after McCarthy had taken on the U.S. Army and the Eisenhower administration. Eisenhower later included Bush’s name on an undated handwritten list of prospective candidates he favored for the 1960 GOP presidential nomination.
