Bennett Ousted at Utah G.O.P. Convention (TEA PARTY DEFEATS RINO SENATOR)
The New York Times ^ | May 8, 2010 | Kirk Johnson

Posted on 05/08/2010 3:43:37 PM PDT by Clintonfatigued

Senator Robert F. Bennett, an 18-year veteran Republican who had been seeking a fourth term this fall, was stripped of his party’s nomination on Saturday at the state convention, becoming one of the first Congressional victims of the surging ferment of discontent from the Tea Party-infused Republican right.

Mr. Bennett, 76, was outmatched in delegate votes by two relative newcomers despite an enthusiastic endorsement and convention speech from Mitt Romney, the former Massachusetts governor and local Utah hero, and a political pedigree of deep Mormon roots and public service.

Thune is running unopposed, you’re wasting your time.

I won't be wasting my time if a bunch of conservatives try to promote this guy to a Presidential ticket in 2012 after he stabbed us in the back repeatedly. Lindsey Graham gets hell for being John McCain's best buddy, Thune shouldn't get a free pass when he's close 2nd.

Let's make sure I'm keeping track here.

Proper freeper response to Senators for being a 1) HUGE McCain fan, 2) betraying us on a MAJOR issue (conservative confirmations, drilling, amnesty, etc.), 3) getting all giggy about being “bipartisan”

1) John McCain himself = DEATH in the next primary
2) Lindsey Graham = DEATH by ANY means possible!!
3) Bob Bennett = not sure if he's a McCain fan, but DEATH anyway!!
3 Lisa Murkowski = “shrugs”
4) Joe Lieberman = send him more campaign contributions and knock on doors for him
5) Fred Thompson = give him a promotion to President!!
6) John Thune = give him a promotion to President!!

Seems the proper response varies alot on these “inexcusable” issues.

There was a great moment last week...when Bennett was confronted by a regular citizen who asked about him being a full-time political guy like the rest in Washington. Bennett didn’t have a good comeback and it really made him look bad.

The minute you agree that two terms is a good idea...you’ve really locked yourself into a problem at the end of the second term.

If they’d agree to only meet 100 days out of the year...I wouldn’t mind a guy who runs for three or four terms. But they would never consider a limit to 100 days of action in DC...it’d destroy their business.

Thune has a track record of being one of the biggest oinkers in Washington who spends zillions of dollars on pet projects in his own state.

Thune has signs erected on interstates throughout South Dakota that mark his birthplace, residence, etc. I saw them last week as we drove west through the state.

On the bright side: there are gals in Sioux Falls who are total cuties, and they're probably more conservative than most folks I know who reside east of the Mississippi River.

You are right of coure; when all the dust settles, the Congress that meets in Jan. 2011 woun’t be much different practically speaking that what is there. Votes thus far cast have brought about few changes.

Unfortunately we do not currently have term limits so action had to be taken to remove Bennett. I’m for moving a step up whenever possible. In particular in races where we don’t need the power of incumbency to beat the rat, I have no qualms about opposing the incumbent, none of them are entitled to reelection if there’s someone markedly preferable. Utah can do better than Bennett (and this time it did).

The Utah Convention system isn’t the same thing as having 11 county chairs choose the nominee.

A good result was produced in Utah, while true this is the not the biggest ideological intra-party contest celebration is appropriate. Whether one likes the Utah system or not most people won’t fault the process when it produces results they like.

My responses

1)McCain: Go Hawyorth, Boot McLame

2)Lindsey Graham = Primary him, but no supporting weird “conservative” democrats in the general

3)Bennett: Time for him to go. (Not screaming “DEATH” but it’s good he lost)

4)Lisa M: Go Miller, boot her RINO nepotistic keister.

5)Joe Lieberman: 95% Leftist scum, I’d have voted for the Republican, gambling issues or not.

6)Fred: Not perfect, open to serious criticism on several points, ran a bad race, but he was clearly the best choice in 2008.

7)Thune: Should’ve be primaried. Should not be put on the national ticket.

Educating people is never a waste of time.

I notice you have no refutation of the facts Billyboy laid out.

What facts? Thune is running for Senate unopposed. Refute that.

Of the several less than conservative things your apparent hero has done smart alack. I notice you STILL offer no refutation. Only blather that he’s unopposed (he should have been opposed). We’re talking about his record here not his electoral prospects.

I’d love to hear some lame defense of his DESPICABLE actions on the Bolton nomination. Will you offer one or blather a third time about how he’s unopposed while ignoring the POLICY objections that have been raised with his pork-happy record?

Do you work for the Senator?

Only blather that he’s unopposed (he should have been opposed).

McCain was effectively unopposed until J.D. Hayworth entered the Arizona primary race.

Impy is right. Educating people is never a waste of time.

After all, that "educating" might spark a more conservative South Dakotan to challenge Thune.

A primary challenge is impossible since the major party filing deadline was March 30.

But the filing deadline to run as an independent is June 8.
