Senator Robert F. Bennett, an 18-year veteran Republican who had been seeking a fourth term this fall, was stripped of his partys nomination on Saturday at the state convention, becoming one of the first Congressional victims of the surging ferment of discontent from the Tea Party-infused Republican right.
Mr. Bennett, 76, was outmatched in delegate votes by two relative newcomers despite an enthusiastic endorsement and convention speech from Mitt Romney, the former Massachusetts governor and local Utah hero, and a political pedigree of deep Mormon roots and public service.

This isn’t a House race, but it’s a big development.
I heard that also, thanks
Thanks for the ping. Not surprised, esp. in a state like Utah.
That bill was based on than the one Reagan signed in 1986.
There were no illusions about the Amnesty bill of 2007. The Gipper can't save him. Neither Bennett, nor any other Republican who voted for that bill have anyplace to hide.
Looks like Bennett will soon be walking across the aisle for the last time to surrender to the Democrats.
>> You wont find Sarah supporting any RINOs, thats fer sure.
That’s hilarious regardless of any unintentional sarcasm.
Mike Steele, please pick up the white courtesy phone....
Since the RINOs plan runs as Independent, how about the conservatives in the team party movement stop supporting the GOP with our cash and votes. Then the GOP RINOS will stop throwing money and support to the RINOs independent runs. We can kill the GOP in their steps if they want to play that game.
Sadly... you are correct.
People that close to the grave shouldn’t be making laws that will enslave two or three generations.
We now live in a era of generational financial sodomy. Old people, older generations should suck it up and have the crap hit the fan now, rather than dump tons of stinking, steaming piles of debt crap on people unborn yet.
Attention voters, clean up in isle RINO.
Uh, no ... Bob Bennett’s votes for amnesty, TARP, earmarks, healthcare mandates and ignoring the wishes of the voters was the kiss of death.
He threw away the mandate of the people.
sarcasm tag needed?
Revolution II on deck!
“To celebrate, Im going to boil some tea.”
To celebrate, Im going to smoke some tea.
Happy Mothers Day to the Moms out there! Cheers!
One down, many more to go.
Throw the vast majority of em out, and start over.
Good job, Utah! Now California Republicans and Independents have an opportunity to stop two more masquerading conservatives in the CA senate primary.
Sarah Palin has brought attention to the race by endorsing one of those masqueraders. ABC stations in CA will be airing a three way debate between Tom Campbell, Carly Fiorina, and Chuck DeVore at 11am Sunday. Watch and see if you can tell who the real conservative is.
Independents can draw a Republican ballot in this primary which may be a factor as many Tea Party people are former Republicans who have been awakened by the Obamanation.
Only for a few months, as the Senate GOP will have plenty of new amnesty supporters to replace Bennett if the Illinois, Delaware, California, etc., get their guy elected. By the way, Marky Kirk just voted with the Dems to give statehood to Puetro Rico so we can have 5-6 new safe Democrat seats. He must have been feelin' "moderate" again today.
Those freshman GOP members of the next Senate will be 10X worse than Bennett on his worse day. And they'll have six years to take up GOP committee seats and sell Obama's agenda to the party, trying to move the GOP further left.
I question the logic of freepers who whoop it up over being able to replace a 90% conservative Senator with a 95% conservative Senator in so-called "red states", but have no problem accepting that socialist DIABLOs who vote to the left of many Democrats are "the best we can get" in so-called "blue states"
Bennett was a milquetoast Senator who overstayed his welcome and was not my first choice in the primary, but he was pretty far down my list of Worst GOP Senators. I'd much rather purge daddy's girl in Alaska.
The solution to getting rid of guys like Bennett and McCain who refuse to retire on their own, is term limits.
They can take the Pandacrats (Pander-crats) with ‘em, too!
