What country are we in? 200 students left school and held a march today following the reports yesterday that 4 students dare wear American flag shirts on Cinco de Mayo.

MorganHill Times reported:
About 200 Hispanic teens are marching in Morgan Hill yelling We want respect! and Si se puede! in reaction to a controversy ignited when the Live Oak High School principal effectively sent four students home for wearing T-shirts with American flags on them during Cinco de Mayo.
Mexican-American students felt the students were being disrespectful on the only day they celebrate their heritage while students sporting red, white and blue said it violated their First Amendment rights.
Six police cars and a Morgan Hill motorcycle officer have been cruising alongside the large group as it marches.
The group mostly high school students walked out of school this morning after the story of four students who were sent home because they wore American flag T-shirts went viral on TV and online. Many wear red, white and green and two large Mexico flags can be seen at the front of the line.
The students say they want people to know theyre proud of their heritage and they believe wearing red, white and blue on Cinco de Mayo is disrespectful.
Ping!
I’m sure this will Obama get amnesty passed ;) Keep it up illegals.
If they want respect, they should be in school, excelling academically.
If they want respect, it would help if they behaved with dignity and self-restraint.
Every American kid in California should wear a flag t-shirt the same day.
You cannot demand respect. You must earn it.
Pick them up for truancy, and make them show their papers.
My advice is to "stay thirsty my friend".
Respect is earned not granted. These are Mexican students leaving school and protesting. Nothing American about them.
inconceivable!!!
Sounds like 200 students who need:
1) to be suspended
2) to be properly educated
3) to be deported to Mexico
and maybe all of the above?
Arrest them for being truant”
Arrest them also for holding any kind of ‘march’ or demonstration without a permit.
Permits are required for the type of actions they are holding.
Round them up & check how many of them are here illegally.
Track back to their families & check them out. Kids might have been born here- but lots of older Mixicans have been here for a number of years without papers.
I've heard those ordered here'abouts as: "Corona NFL".
It's not referring to the football league.
Respect? These bozos deserve only contempt.
I therefore have to mildly object to you posting five year old pictures of an event in LA and not putting them in context.
The clear implication you have created is that these kids in Morgan Hill have taken down the US flag and replaced it with a Mexican flag flying over a upside down stars and stripes. This did happen, once upon a time in LA, but not this week.
Now, I will agree that the two incidents are very similar, and the former can and should be brought up now to remind people that this is not the first time we've seen this.
But that still allows for proper captions and background. I'd hate to see Freepers now start saying "they were flying the flag upside down" when, as far as I know, that didn't happen in this case.
Why were they called Mexican-American students when a significant number (perhaps a majority) were illegal aliens? Mexican students illegally attending American schools would have been a more accurate description.
It would be a great time to check their papers.
that particular incident happened a while back actually. We discussed it at length here at FR. There have been multiple similar incidents before that and after that however. Mexicans have a way of not assimilating into American culture. They tend to retain their national identity as evidenced by, for example, hoisting the Mexican flag above a US flag and making no attempt to learn English. This is, IMO, largely attributed by a consensus view within their group that the treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo was illegitimate and that we are the illegal occupants on their land. that is, of course, false.
They’re marching because FOUR students dared to wear American flags? Four?
