Per the link, there were 17 hostages on the bus. The would-be bus bomber released 16 of the hostages. So, my question is this: since 16 eye witnesses have seen the would-be bomber up close and personal, why is there no description of him?

“Hanover Street cleared; robotic devices sent to inspect bus during bomb scare”

SNIPPET: “PORTSMOUTH — More than 7 hours after police were called to Hanover Street for a report of a possible bomb on a Greyhound bus, passengers began being released to family members following interviews by local police, while one passenger remained aboard the bus at the scene.

Shortly after 7 p.m., a female — swarmed by the media — was released by city police after being debriefed at the Junkins Avenue station where she was reportedly picked up by her father.”

SNIPPET: “Sixteen other passengers walked away from the bus two hours after the initial call, with their hands in the air, down the middle of Hanover Street, flanked by SWAT team members.

“We certainly would like him to get off the bus,” said Schwartz of the man that remained on board.

At approximately 11:40 a.m. Thursday, police and firefighters responded to the area of the High-Hanover parking garage, where they surrounded a Greyhound bus while watching a subject inside. Shortly afterwards emergency responders began evacuating nearby businesses.”

SNIPPET: “According to Schwartz, police had not recovered any type of device from the bus.”

Under President Bush we’d have a terrorist threat every year or so, under The Won it’s every few hours!! WTF?!!

I’ve been following this story through out the day and it’s been very odd. On and off they’ve had a 3 mile airspace restriction, they kept all the passengers on the bus for two hours before letting all except the one person off. The last one has been on the bus for probably 5 hours. One news story states that one of the streets has been cleared, yet most state that he is still on the bus.

Still don’t know if it is a true threat or not.

To: Cindy; Admin Moderator

Cindy, this story still seems quite peculiar to me. The initial 911 call came in at, what 11:40AM? I could be wrong, but it seems to me that these types of situations don’t usually go on for the 8 or 9 hours this one’s already been in progress. Does anyone know if the airspace is still being controlled? I’d like to ask the admin moderator to move the thread to Breaking News in case there are any FReepers closer to the scene who might be getting current information. Of course this could turn out to be not much. But, the fact that it’s been in a stand off since this morning and no one’s giving a description of the would-be bomber sure makes it suspicious.

Law said the driver got off, ran to the back of the bus and pulled part of its back door down. He said the driver appeared to do something to disable the bus, then yelled, "get away from the bus," before running down the street.

So much for going down with your ship.

Police: NH bus bomb scare 'not terrorist event'

By KATHY McCORMACK, Associated Press Writer Kathy Mccormack, Associated Press Writer - 2 mins ago

PORTSMOUTH, N.H. – The police chief of Portsmouth, N.H., says a bomb scare and standoff with a passenger aboard a Maine-to-New York Greyhound bus was "not a terrorist event."

Police Chief David Ferland calls the Thursday incident a "localized event only" and refuses to offer any additional information about the passenger, who surrendered after hours of negotiations. ..."
