SNIPPET - quote: Standoff in NH city after bus bomb threat By KATHY McCORMACK (AP) 45 minutes ago
PORTSMOUTH, N.H. Authorities remained in a standoff with a man on a Maine-to-New York Greyhound bus Thursday, hours after a passenger called 911 to report an explosive device on board. The other 16 passengers and the driver safely got off the bus, which was parked in downtown Portsmouth, surrounded by a bomb squad and sharpshooters, including one in an armored vehicle.

I’ve been following this story through out the day and it’s been very odd. On and off they’ve had a 3 mile airspace restriction, they kept all the passengers on the bus for two hours before letting all except the one person off. The last one has been on the bus for probably 5 hours. One news story states that one of the streets has been cleared, yet most state that he is still on the bus.
Still don’t know if it is a true threat or not.

“Portsmouth PD interviewing bus passengers”
SNIPPET: “PORTSMOUTH, N.H. — One passenger is reportedly still on board a Greyhound bus in Portsmouth, New Hampshire as police are investigating a bomb scare on Thursday afternoon.
Officials are talking to one man wearing camouflage pants that remains on the bus.”
Thanks Holly.
I did a bunch of searches and didn’t find your thread.
Sorry about that.
I’ll add your thread as a link.
That’s ok, I’m glad you posted your thread on the front page so it’s easily accessible. If you find out more info, keep us informed. You’re really good finding info. I’ll look around as well.

“Bus standoff: Bomb disposal robots, threat detection, snipers deployed”
SNIPPET: “Updated, 6:28 p.m. Authorities remain in a standoff with a camo-clad man on a Maine-to-New York Greyhound bus hours after a passenger called 911 to report an explosive device on board.”
Thank you Holly.
on a Maine-to-New York Greyhound busThe question on my mind is, is he wearing his Obama campaign t-shirt? Thanks Cindy.
“clad in camoflauge” or “camoflauge pants” — that’s it for a description, no name, no further except it’s a male.
Now that I’ve read both threads and the links and tried to figure out what’s going on...I still haven’t a clue. So, the standoff has been going on for something over 6 hours and there’s still no info about who or what this lone camo pants-wearing goober on the bus is about? Something very very odd about all this.
It’s not odd.
First you take off the passengers.
You make sure they aren’t suspects and/or a handler.
It’s a time consuming process.
The robots have been sent to the area of the bus to look around.
Now the discussion is going on with the suspect.

Cindy, this story still seems quite peculiar to me. The initial 911 call came in at, what 11:40AM? I could be wrong, but it seems to me that these types of situations don’t usually go on for the 8 or 9 hours this one’s already been in progress. Does anyone know if the airspace is still being controlled? I’d like to ask the admin moderator to move the thread to Breaking News in case there are any FReepers closer to the scene who might be getting current information. Of course this could turn out to be not much. But, the fact that it’s been in a stand off since this morning and no one’s giving a description of the would-be bomber sure makes it suspicious.

City police were joined by other local, state and federal agencies including Exeter and Hampton police, the Seacoast Emergency Response Team (SERT), a K-9 unit from Dover, the N.H. State Police bomb disposal unit, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (ATF), immigration and customs officials and the FBI. An armored vehicle was called in from Rye.

Interesting immigration and customs are there - did this bus originate from Canada?
It’s typical.
Yes, see post 10.
I’m watching the link.
I don’t know if it came from Canada.
It’s not uncommon for those units to be there.
SNIPPET from SeaCoastOnline.com:
“Police Chief Lou Ferland said police had received information that there may be a subject on the bus with a bomb.”
If everyone is off the bus except the perp, perhaps he is strapped with explosives or something. They wouldn’t hold out this long with a lone perp. More here than meets the eye.
