A plan by Senate Democratic leaders to reform the nation’s immigration laws ran into strong opposition from civil liberties defenders before lawmakers even unveiled it Thursday.
Democratic leaders have proposed requiring every worker in the nation to carry a national identification card with biometric information, such as a fingerprint, within the next six years, according to a draft of the measure.
The proposal is one of the biggest differences between the newest immigration reform proposal and legislation crafted by late Sen. Edward Kennedy (D-Mass.) and Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.).
The national ID program would be titled the Believe System, an acronym for Biometric Enrollment, Locally stored Information and Electronic Verification of Employment.

American citizens don’t need any more ID’s. What do you think their motives are? It sure as h@#l isn’t to decrease illegal immigration.
A better “green card” for non-citizen workers maybe ok. What do you suppose their real objective is. It sure as H#$l isn’t wanting to stop illegal immigration. No form of ID is going to be impossible to forge no matter what they do.
Seal the borders, eforce the current laws, that is all that is needed.
I have to wonder if this isn’t intended to be a poison pill that is intended to turn off the American public to things like border security. It wouldn’t be the first time that a party friendly to a certain position intentionally destroyed a potential law which they proposed—for example, the Democrats seem to propose a draft when they want people to denounce it, and after the flier is shot down, they quietly move on, mission accomplished.

Having spent a couple of days in NE Massachusetts (from Florida), I'm thinking the number of Illegals is even higher than that! A recent discussion of the number of travelers who'd "overstayed their visas" was completely unknown by Our Government.

They are Illegal, breaking the law , and we are supposed to allow that because of Civil rights they do not have? No one has a right to no obey the law. That is not a new Civil Right.

National ID card in 6 years after everyone from Mexico and god knows where else is already here and ALREADY REGISTERED DEMOCRAT the regime gets it’s wish a natioal ID card registry or what there really pushing for is RFID to track the anti socialist government American patriots.
FYI: Nothing really changes! I served on an Inter-Agency Task Force convened by Jimmy Carter during 1979 - 1981. A "National ID Card" was a central feature of "improving immigration controls" at that time. Needless to say, within a few months of Ronald Reagan's innaugeration in 1981, the task force and its "National ID" proposal were scrapped!!!
