Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush is speaking out against the new hard-line immigration law in Arizona, becoming the first prominent national Republican to do so.
"I think it creates unintended consequences," he said in a telephone interview with POLITICO Tuesday. "It's difficult for me to imagine how you're going to enforce this law. It places a significant burden on local law enforcement and you have civil liberties issues that are significant as well."
The measure, signed into law last Friday, would require police to check the immigration status of any individuals they reasonably suspect are illegal immigrants and arrest them if they can't prove legal status.
Bush said he understood the anger that prompted the bill, but that immigration should remain a federal issue.

Florida had a law like AZ’s law a few years ago. Rubio-amnesty made sure it was killed in the FL senate or house.
I cannot stand Crist but FL needs a real conservative running. I talked to a neighbor who does not liek Crist but he refuses to vote for Rubio.
Anyone know if there is a Tea Party member running in Florida? If Charlie runs as an independent then a Tea Party member could win. Rubio is as bad as Lindsay Graham.
No problem. It makes it easy to identify the non-conservatives on the forum.
Wveryone here had better look up Jeb’s(and George’s) granddad “Prescott Bush” to see what the family’s POS legacy is. Prescott Bush was a N/E liberal MAGGOT!
sums up the problem.
Not like now, when we can all drive around without any proof of driver’s license, insurance, or car registration.
I do not think that I am in any danger walking around my neighborhood without above papers.
Are you referring to some other kind of papers besides DL which everyone carries with them when they drive someplace? People carry ID when they shop since most people use CC.
Very, very few people have no ID, specifically DL, when they are out and about. Pretty much the only ones who don’t have such docs are criminals who have had their DLs taken away, don’t register cars, etc. I read about them in the Police Blotter.
Of course, many illegals have forged docs.
Oh stop with this crap...There are so many examples of what would determine suspension...Like driving without a license/insurance and or carrying fraudulent ID. I could go on.
Like we have heard and read over and over but bears repeating: The Constitution is not a suicide pact.
We must get this under control and get the illegals out or our country will perish. If Rubio does not understand then the heck with him. He can get into office but we must then teach him who he works for, and it is NOT for the illegals.
If one of his precious Cubans come over here illegally then they must be sent back. If they come here the proper way we can say "welcome, citizen."
no more Bushes or Clintons
I had no idea, but I’m not surprised either.
Interesting Eisenhower was fighting Johnson at the time.
No more Bush’s for President.
I want a real honest to god Conservative, not a RINO.
Arizona: Doing the job America just won’t do.
The "unintended consequences" will only be in our favor.
The Illegals really thought the Gringos were all stupid and weak. They thought wrong.
The law is word for word the exact same as the Federal law——which no one seems to want to enforce.!!!
Jeb, I am pretty sure you have been taught how to read.
Bone up on what you are talking about.
INDEED!
Meet Steve Montenegro, himself an immigrant from El Salvador and now a member of the Arizona State Legislature.
Here is a promising rising star that the GOP needs to promote! Regarding the phony charge that all latinos will be targets of this law.......
He shouldnt worry says Steve Montenegro, himself an immigrant from El Salvador and now a member of the State Legislature. Montenegro voted for the controversial immigration law which he says opponents are distorting. That it is a race issue, anti-Hispanic and anti-immigrant bill, Montenegro said. It couldnt be farther from the truth.
What the bill does he says is give police another tool to fight crime that comes with the flood across the border.
Its going crazy here, Montenegro said. And the federal government time and again failed tremendously to protect its citizens and secure the border.

Facepalm...
We live in an age when every time you get on the internet is recorded somewhere. Every time a police officer pulls you over for speeding he takes your license and views everything about your legal status before he even returns to your window. There is no excuse for a legitimate person's status not being verified with a little on the spot diligence and some savvy questioning.
And anyway, even if it's only 90% effective, that's a far better state of affairs than the developing chaos we have now.
My thoughts exactly. Too bad Reagan didn't pick Kemp.
