Holy Cow, Look What Happened When Eyjafjallajökull Erupted In 1812

The last time Eyjafjallajökull blew its top the eruption lasted for two years, spreading smoke and ash over Iceland causing significant damage.
* The last time Eyjafjallajökull erupted, it lasted 2 years stretching from 1821-1823. It also erupted in 920 and 1612.
* The 1821 eruption spread fluoride across iceland, damaging livestock and human well-being. Glacial flooding also resulted from the eruption.
* Eyjafjallajökull's eruption usually precedes an eruption for another Icelandic volcano called Katla, as it did in 1823. Katla's eruptions are usually more violent than Eyjafjallajökul's.
* Katla is partially trapped under a glacier and its eruption would create even more flooding problems for Iceland.
* The Laki volcano, which erupted in 1783, was the worst in Icelandic history. It killed a quarter of Iceland's residents, created a poisonous plume over Prague, made New Jersey's snowfall its highest ever, and had an impact on one of Egypt's worst droughts.
* The Laki volcano is considered a central cause of the French Revolution, as it led to a poor harvest and public unrest in the country.

Didn’t they used to get appeased by throwing someone in?
Would that be ‘Gorebull Warming’?
AlBore (ManBearPig) needs to get busy stoking the furnice. I hate the cold.
Mankind could be destroyed in a matter of days.
LOL :)
Well the center of the earth is already “several million degrees”. LOL
I suggested in a related thread sacrificing Algore to plug the volcano.
One might also use Michael Moore for good measure.
You're right! Throw the deniers in!
“Id blow my top too if anyone ever saddled me with a name like Eyjafjallajökull!
Hey! “Eyjafjallajökull” is my middle name!
Apparently Katla also typically erupts following this volcano.
I was thinking this was no big deal, but it may end up being such.
It’s Bush’s fault. Bush and those damned SUVs.
Women and minorities will be hardest hit.
Hey now! You wouldn't want to MAKE the volcano angry, would you?
Toss in a couple of liberal Hollywood chippies instead.
I’m checking the air in my tires and flushing my toilet once a week to offset the impact to the environment...
Actually it did end for an awful lot of people. The gas and ash from the second volcano killed a lot of people in Europe. The “year without a summer” killed a LOT more.
The scary thing is that two things seem to need to come together to really chill the planet: low sunspot activity (which is actually a symptom of the real cause, a magnetically quiet sun) and a reaaly big volcano or two going “kaboom.”
Short version: Low magnetic activity means more extra-solar cosmic rays reach Earth. Ash from a big volcano means more particles in the atmosphere to become charged by those cosmic rays, which in turn means a LOT more cloud cover. While clouds can hold heat in, too much extra cloud cover blocks so much sunlight that the Earth cools. Voila: Year without a summer.
We have both now.
PS Man’s influence is utterly insignificant compared to either of these forces, let alone both acting together.
Oh, but that temperature MUST have fallen due to this eruption.
Leni
According to CNN’s Rick Sanchez, its too cold in iceland for a volcano.
LOL!! good one ;-)
