Michelle Obama backs diversity on Supreme Court

US First Lady Michelle Obama Thursday said she favored diversity on the nation's top court, wading into risky political waters as her husband weighs his second pick to the bench.

Asked in an interview with MSNBC television her preference for the upcoming nomination to the Supreme Court, Obama said of President Barack Obama: "I think he knows what he's doing in this instance."

"Diversity in this country is a good thing whether it's gender or race or socio-economic background or religion. You know, that's the world I come from," she said.

"The more views and experiences at the table make for better outcomes."

Obama has yet to announce his nominee to replace retiring Justice John Paul Stevens, 89, who steps down in June, although several names are already circulating in US political circles.

It will be the president's second nomination to the nine-member bench, who serve for life, after last year choosing Sonia Sotomayor to be the court's first Hispanic justice and only its third ever woman.

But the White House is already gearing up for a political battle as the nominee will likely face gruelling congressional hearings and Republicans could well seek to delay the appointment amid a toxic political atmosphere.

Michelle Obama said: "I have opinions and I share them with my husband at times."(continued)

Why should she have any more input than any one of us? Elitism defined. I know, I know, she's his beard, er, wife.

While this is actually true, I have the utmost difficulty believing that this was ever true about any social community Michelle ever belonged to. It was always about intellectual uniformity across many trivial physical and ethnic diversities in her world.

"Diversity in this country is a good thing whether it's gender or race or socio-economic background or religion."

Right. Just not ideological diversity.

The world you come from has people who are in positions of power not due to the content of their character, but the color of their skin.

“Diversity in this country is a good thing whether it’s gender or race or socio-economic background or religion. You know, that’s the world I come from,” she said.”

Not exactly what she intimated in her Princeton thesis.

“Diversity in this country is a good thing whether it’s gender or race or socio-economic background or religion.”

Empirical evidence please.

That’s the problem, no one ever calls these elitist bastards on their “givens”.

It’s supposed to be.
That’s been the divine directive for 5000 years.

But these people, of course, know better.

Well , Michelle, their are only SO MANY Supreme Court Justices and there already is a BLACK MAN on the Court since you think skin color is so important. AND SINCE you are so concerned about it, well, statistically BLACK PEOPLE are what percentage in our nation, 11%, 12% maybe 13%? That means that the Court is accurate in it's representation of the skin color you are probably most concerned about. Besides....it was the DEMOCRATS that CUT a LATINO off of the court running.

Now Michelle, I have a question. And since your minister of twenty years, a man you supported with money (have ya seen the house he lives in now, babe?) brought this up, I feel ok about asking the question. Rev Wright, on tape, was VERY EXCITED about a BLACK LADY getting it 'on' in the White House with her spouse....want to know if you are enjoying living there and are engaging in the manner your past minister not only described but ACTED OUT on the podium of your past church. Surely he deserves to know if you are having fun in OUR White House.

And since you are always so crass about getting your own, and concerned about skin color and keeping racism alive and well as a measure not only of your goodness but of valid reason to trash out good, good nation, understand that we are seeing more and more beautiful BLACK faces at the Tea Parties every single event. You and those like you are LOSING the brain washing tenure you have exploited for way to many years.

I don’t think Michelle MaBelle’s “diversity” extends to whitey.

I doubt if she like Asians, either.

She probably is O.K. with Mexicans/Hispanics as long as they are doing grunt work for her.
