Joe Brown and Allee Bautsch
Allee Bautsch, chief campaign fundraiser for Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal, and her boyfriend Joe Brown, were savagely beaten Friday night in New Orleans after leaving a Republican party fundraising dinner by a group of thugs who reportedly targeted the couple because they were wearing Sarah Palin pins.
Bautch's leg was broken and Brown incurred a broken jaw and nose as well as a concussion.
The Hayride reports that a source who visited Bautsch at the hospital the day after the attack says they were told the couple was attacked for wearing Palin buttons:
Two people at the Brennans event have now confirmed that the protest had largely broken up by the time it ended, but we also understand from someone who visited Allee Bautsch in the hospital Saturday morning that she and Brown were followed and attacked expressly because they had Palin pins on (she heard one of the attackers say Lets get them, they have Palin pins on so the attack WAS politically motivated as its victims understood it. It was not a mugging, it was not an argument gone wrong and it was not a bar fight.
The story of a Republican and her boyfriend being viciously attacked for wearing Palin buttons has yet to make national headlines, unlike say, unfounded rumors of nasty words being said by Tea Party protesters.
It has happened to me a couple of times. Two rather large mannish looking women slowed down by my car as I was wheeling my groceries toward it and I overheard them say "lets wait for the SOB" I called out and identified myself as the "SOB you have been waiting for" and they took off.
I hope the people who did this are punished and pray that the victims gain strength from this hideous event.
Are there any security cams along that stretch of Bourbon Street that might have caught this action? You'd think that with the proximity of the police station there might be?
I agree with what you're saying. As a general rule Urban PD's are very concerned with keeping tourist areas as safe as they can. They don't always succeed, but it is always at the top of the list of priorities.
Anyone seen the comments to the Times-Picayune article that was posted here? Apparently, some stupid ass denizens of New Orleans think it’s real funny that these two got beaten up - one with a broken leg.
New Orleans appears to be a criminal dump, and the people of this country have done enough to “rebuild” it. New Orleans can rebuild itself, just like every city has after a natural disaster.
I do, however, feel sorry for citizens of New Orleans who have to put up with this abysmal crap.
Unless the note was written on a stone tablet, ignore it.
Brennan’s is one block over from Bourbon on Royal St. With all the ATM’s and surveillance cameras, I’d think something would’ve been captured.
“If these a-holes want trouble...they will have it!!!”
They only want trouble when it is 6 men to a man and woman. The cowardly ba$tards!
We were waiting for the SEIU thugs in Phoenix. The cowards never showed up.
It’s a politically motivated beating. These people are no different than Nazi brownshirts. Nobody in this country should tolerate it. It’ll only get worse if we do.
A broken leg, broken nose and jaw to fake such a thing exhibits a level of commitment rarely seen. I tend to doubt it.
3 quick head shots and the odds are almost even.
To this day, many republicans, in their zeal to bash democrats and defend Bush, refuse to concede that the response to Katrina was a failure at all levels of government. In addition, they refuse to admit or recognize the Army Corps of Engineers' culpability for this disaster. People need to understand that in New Orleans, Katrina was never a natural disaster, but a man-made one.

Many of us were armed.
This ought to be a warning.... these thug/cowards are apt to strike anywhere. Go to a rally, pack some heat!
Union thugs no doubt.
It is certainly well within the realm of possibility, given the left’s noted PDS (Palin Derangement Syndrome), but “Lets get them, they have Palin pins on” ? Really?
I dunno, I’s getting that same uncertain feeling I did following the famous “B Girl” incident in 2008.
To: onyxTo add: clearly a crime took place. Whether or not the perps said, theyre wearing Palin pins, lets get them is another thing altogether. Just like freepers questioned the N word being used a few weeks ago at a rally, we should also apply same caution here.
So there is no responsibility on the part of the State of Louisiana or the people of New Orleans to make preparations, respond to warnings and otherwise look after their own welfare and safety, eh?
Sorry. Not buying. Go peddle it somewhere else.
I don't think the fear is that they weren't really beaten up - they clearly were.
The thing you need to be wary of is that they were not quite the innocent victims of the beatdown that the first version of the story would lead you to believe.
To be clear, I am absolutely not implying that that is the case here, but you can get burned reacting to a victim's story only to later find out that there was more to be told about the incident.
