In Event of WMD Attack, "All Bets Are Off" (Palin Victory, Obama Changes Stance on Nuke Warfare)

The Obama administration's nuclear posture review may have removed some of the intentional ambiguity from U.S. nuclear policy, but it does not leave the country any less safe, President Obama's top national security advisers said on CBS' "Face the Nation."

In fact, they said, it gives a clear warning to other state actors that the U.S. will not ignore any growing threats.

"This is putting everybody on notice," Secretary of State Hillary Clinton told CBS News chief Washington correspondent Bob Schieffer in an interview conducted Friday at the Pentagon. "We don't want more countries to go down the path that North Korea and Iran are."

The revised nuclear policy says that the United States will not use nuclear weapons to respond to a chemical or biological attack from a non-nuclear country. The policy, however, leaves significant contingencies, said Secretary of Defense Robert Gates.

"We were concerned about the biological weapons," Gates said, "and that's why the president was very clear ... if we see states developing biological weapons that we begin to think endanger us or create serious concerns, that he reserves the right to revise this policy."

Clinton added, "If we can prove that a biological attack originated in a country that attacked us, then all bets are off."

Gates also pointed out that the policy dictates that any country that uses chemical or biological weapons against the U.S. will "suffer a devastating conventional retaliation."

here's another problem: If we can prove --- How does one "prove" this? To whose satisfaction should it be proven? The UN?

“the president was very clear ... if we see states developing biological weapons that we begin to think endanger us or create serious concerns, that he reserves the right to revise this policy.”
I can just see the expression on that bio-militant’s face when he sees himself in the cross hairs of a (dare I think the unthinkable?) A UN resolution!

“any country that uses chemical or biological weapons against the U.S. will “suffer a devastating conventional retaliation.”
Does that mean that Kim Jung Il will be summoned by Henry Waxman to appear before a committee?

GW Bush appointed Gates as Sec of Defense, and GW Bush LOVES the job that Gates did for him

That's not really true. I have had conversations with ex-officers who told me GW Bush lamented the fact that Rumsfeld was gone, and that Gates was a much lesser SECDEF. Rumsfeld was fearless, and fearlessly pursued what he felt was right and good - reporters and PC be damned. When the Republicans lost in 2006, Rumsfeld put his own head on the block, out of loyalty to GW Bush.

The Bush's prize loyalty above all else.

Gates, on the other hand, sticks around in a corrupt, vile, evil, wicked, racist, criminal administration (that is acting like a Dictatorship). I have no idea if it is the perceived power that Gates cannot seem to give up, or if he really believes he is "saving" the American military.

Either way, he is still simply acting as a useful idiot for Obama and his thugs by providing political cover to Obama in all defense related matters. Gates is an impediment to the military, but he thinks he is another messiah.

“In the event of a chemical or bio attack on this country, Obama stands ready to impose some very onerous sanctions on the offender...right after he reads them their Miranda Rights.”

Eric Holder and friends are ready at a moment’s notice to drop everything and represent any terrorist group/nation to ensure their US constitutional rights are preserved.

Their just swell.

As Rush says, she’s “living rent-free in his head.”

She's so far into his decision-making loop it isn't funny. She's run complete rings around this empty suit, and all his numerous allies, time, and time again...

“It is more like a gift package for the GOP. Once the general population sees what the Dems are really like, very few will ever be elected again.”

Not with the MSM hiding the truth. As long as the media is slanted hard left this will happen again, and again, and again.....

That’s nice. Especially seeing as they’re doing nothing effective about either. But at least they “don’t want” any more. How reassuring.

Is there a vast semi-right-wing group of moderate fools out there, or is all that being orchestrated by the media as just another plot to knock Palin out of the top spot?

I think the latter. When Alan Keyes was running in the 2000 Republican primaries, you would never have known it. He was totally not mentioned anywhere except on the ballot. News media. I will also bring up the memory of the California Governor's race where Schwartzenegger was elected, but McClintock was the much better choice. He was scarcely mentioned, it was all about Arnold, 24/7. News media.

The news media will always manipulate Republican primaries by virtue of their power over the mushy minds of the brainwashed TV generation. They will push forth Bush over Keyes, and McCain over everyone else, while keeping hope alive for Huckabee. They helped give us Dole in '96. They tried to give us McCain in '04. They will never quit.
