In Event of WMD Attack, "All Bets Are Off" (Palin Victory, Obama Changes Stance on Nuke Warfare)

The Obama administration's nuclear posture review may have removed some of the intentional ambiguity from U.S. nuclear policy, but it does not leave the country any less safe, President Obama's top national security advisers said on CBS' "Face the Nation."

In fact, they said, it gives a clear warning to other state actors that the U.S. will not ignore any growing threats.

"This is putting everybody on notice," Secretary of State Hillary Clinton told CBS News chief Washington correspondent Bob Schieffer in an interview conducted Friday at the Pentagon. "We don't want more countries to go down the path that North Korea and Iran are."

The revised nuclear policy says that the United States will not use nuclear weapons to respond to a chemical or biological attack from a non-nuclear country. The policy, however, leaves significant contingencies, said Secretary of Defense Robert Gates.

"We were concerned about the biological weapons," Gates said, "and that's why the president was very clear ... if we see states developing biological weapons that we begin to think endanger us or create serious concerns, that he reserves the right to revise this policy."

Clinton added, "If we can prove that a biological attack originated in a country that attacked us, then all bets are off."

Gates also pointed out that the policy dictates that any country that uses chemical or biological weapons against the U.S. will "suffer a devastating conventional retaliation."

The Ditherer-in-Chief is being forced by public outrage to back off his free shot for a chemical or biological weapons attack on the U.S.

Notch another victory for Sarah Palin.

These decisions continue to make him look like the amatuer he is.

Good grief... impeach the imposter.

Obama symbolizes the complete gift package for Dems. They want to implement all of their outstanding agendas in the queue once and for all. Even if it leads to a catastrophe.
All they worry about it is that this is their last chance and they had better not miss it.

Removed the “institutional ambiguity”?????

That’s what they call endangering all of our families with the most gruesome weapons on Earth.

In the event of a chemical or bio attack on this country, Obama stands ready to impose some very onerous sanctions on the offender...right after he reads them their Miranda Rights.

Hmm are Gates’ quotes more like Dr. Strangelove, or the Pink Panther?

We were concerned about the biological weapons (But not the NERVE GAS????) so Obama reserved the right to “revise” the policy AFTER a country launches a plague killing millions of Americans.

The above alone is enough, IMHO, to justify removing Obama from office.

I am a little confused here - Nuclear attacks are alright but WMD of the chemical sort are off limits? If we have proof some one is about to or did use such against America....we will retaliate?

I don't think 'we' will be around to do anything close to retaliation..........

Some background on this week's Palin-Obama battle from the AP:

SNIP

The spat began Wednesday when Palin criticized Obama's rewriting of the U.S. nuclear defense policy. Her comments came during an interview on Fox News, where she is a paid analyst. She likened Obama to a kid poised for a playground fight who said, "Go ahead, punch me in the face and I'm not going to retaliate. Go ahead and do what you want to with me."

Palin was particularly incensed about the policy that says if a non-nuclear state were to use chemical or biological weapons against the U.S. or its allies, it would face a potentially devastating conventional military strike by the U.S., but not a nuclear one.

"No administration in America's history would, I think, ever have considered such a step that we just found out President Obama is supporting today," Palin said.

Across the globe in Prague, Obama was asked by ABC News to respond to the criticism.

"I really have no response," the president said. "Because last I checked, Sarah Palin's not much of an expert on nuclear issues."

Obama added: "If the secretary of Defense and the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff are comfortable with it, I'm probably going to take my advice from them and not from Sarah Palin."

SNIP

Palin then shot back Friday during a speech to the Southern Republican Leadership Conference in New Orleans with a reference to Obama's early career choice. Mocking the president, she dismissed "all the vast nuclear experience that he acquired as a community organizer." (and as a part time senator and full time campaigner.)
