In Event of WMD Attack, "All Bets Are Off" (Palin Victory, Obama Changes Stance on Nuke Warfare)
CBS News ^ | Sunday, April 11, 2010 | Stephanie Condon

The Obama administration's nuclear posture review may have removed some of the intentional ambiguity from U.S. nuclear policy, but it does not leave the country any less safe, President Obama's top national security advisers said on CBS' "Face the Nation."

In fact, they said, it gives a clear warning to other state actors that the U.S. will not ignore any growing threats.

"This is putting everybody on notice," Secretary of State Hillary Clinton told CBS News chief Washington correspondent Bob Schieffer in an interview conducted Friday at the Pentagon. "We don't want more countries to go down the path that North Korea and Iran are."

The revised nuclear policy says that the United States will not use nuclear weapons to respond to a chemical or biological attack from a non-nuclear country. The policy, however, leaves significant contingencies, said Secretary of Defense Robert Gates.

"We were concerned about the biological weapons," Gates said, "and that's why the president was very clear ... if we see states developing biological weapons that we begin to think endanger us or create serious concerns, that he reserves the right to revise this policy."

Clinton added, "If we can prove that a biological attack originated in a country that attacked us, then all bets are off."

Gates also pointed out that the policy dictates that any country that uses chemical or biological weapons against the U.S. will "suffer a devastating conventional retaliation."

For the love of God, people need to get over this.

BOTH pronunciations are correct.

LINK

nu·cle·ar (nōō'klē-ər, nyōō'-)

Usage Note: The pronunciation (nōō'kyə-lər), which is generally considered incorrect, is an example of how a familiar phonological pattern can influence an unfamiliar one. The usual pronunciation of the final two syllables of this word is (-klē-ər), but this sequence of sounds is rare in English. Much more common is the similar sequence (-kyə-lər), which occurs in words like particular, circular, spectacular, and in many scientific words like molecular, ocular, and vascular.

Of course, Sarah Palin has more brains in her pinky finger then this America hater, POTUS Barack Hussein Obama has in his entire body. I expect Obama to work to destroy America, but the guy I am really ticked off at is Secretary of Defense, Robert Gates. Now there is a traitor if I ever saw one. Gates knows better, but he still kisses the feet of Obama, just like Congressman Stupak. Stupak was the supreme dummy, and now is forever held in contempt by the American people, and IMHO Secretary Gates is the same dummy!!!

Excellent point. If England attacks us (and who knows ... by the time Obama’s 4 years are over they may want to!) then we should be attacking two countries - the one who attacked and the one who plotted it.

Hillary is the smartest woman in the world, you know?

The MSM has MADE her into a substantial vocal opponent. If they hadn’t tried their damnedest to criticize her and show how stupid she is, no one would know her. One of those unintended consequences that the left is so famous for.

Oh I would love for Sarah to run, don’t get my post wrong. The establishment rep and dem want her gone because her presence makes the contrast of their scum that much more vivid. Like installing new carpet next to old tile. The old tile has to go.

No enemy should ever have any certainty that our response will be limited.

Free Republic quote of the month right here, ladies and gentlemen. This should be part of the oath of office that every one of our elected representatives is required to take before assuming office.

Impeach.........and send into exile!! This president/, that is what I would dream. He can feel whatever he feels about nukes, etc etc etc, but the President of the USA should never, ever, ever take options off the table or so much as utter that we would wouldn’t use them. EVER! Have these fools never heard of deterrence?

No wonder the PaulBots bash Sarah Palin on FR.
Sarah is the one speaking out for the defense of
our Nation.

The PaulBots would rather have a candidate hand out shovels
to dig holes to bury our heads.

I also heard her say nu-cu-lar. Why in the world do educated people say that, for heaven’s sake? Disappointing.

“She likened Obama to a kid poised for a playground fight who said, “Go ahead, punch me in the face and I’m not going to retaliate.”

More like the old visual joke where the guy puts his hand in front of his face and tells the bully to “hit my hand!”.
Then when the bully takes a poke at his hand, the rube pulls his hand away only to get a mouth full of fist!

She said it both ways in her speech—go back and listen. I think she’s doing it just to bug the MSM and liberals.

Why, that almost sounds like--horror of horrors!--the dreaded preemption.

My 8th grade science teacher also said noo-kyu-ler.

Noo-kyu-ler has become an accepted, albeit substandard, alternative just as the equally cringe inducing Illinoiz has for Illinois.
