FINALLY. We need more of this. UT would be one of the wealthiest countries in the world with just teh clean coal.
Sure wish they had started these actions years ago. They might have gotten on the docket by now.
If the state of Utah gives the land back to the mining companies that owned it before the federal land steal, this is a good thing. If they sell it to someone else, it may be immoral as well as illegal.

Of course that land had value for agriculture ~ except for the vast swamp South of Fort Wayne (the Limberlost) ~ that wasn't sold off until he'd been dead most of a century.
Utah is more like the Limberlost. Might have some value but it couldn't be realized until a later century ~ which may be now. The decisions regarding release of federal claims to that land should be subjected to extensive review. Certainly any state can give better attention to it's own land than can a remote federal agency.
Yup. Thank goodness. We need more of this. the ONLY way we can pay down the debt, create wealth (a big deal), create jobs and tax revenues is domestic energy and we have it.

You are missing the point. The USA has 4 to 5 times the energy reserves of the Saudis. The Dems, some Repubs and enviros are on the Saudi take (funding think tanks).
The Feds grab the land and make it a park. This keeps us energy slaves to the Saudis. Great job Utah.
Frankly, federal stewardship of land like this, for example in Indian reservations, has not been beneficial to the inhabitants, those who live near the area, nor the nation as a whole.
There's a coal field that'd choke the crab nebula.
Same in North Dakota, South Dakota, parts of Wyoming, Indiana, Kentucky, West Virginia, Tennessee, Ohio, and so on.
Utah isn't the only place in this country with coal.
The redesignation of the low-sulfur coalfields is the issue you're talking about ~ not Saudi intrigue.
The redesignation can be changed and the coal thrown open to mining.
I'd prefer just giving the whole place to Utah.

Illinois has enough coal and the right type of coal to create more coal diesel than the Saudis have in oil.
