Would You Vote For An Atheist For President, If You Agreed With His Policies?

Last year, I met with a former congressional aide, who said that there were several closeted atheists in Congress. To run for public office in America, it is almost a requirement that people publicly proclaim their religious affiliation, irrespective of whether they believe or not. Would you vote for a self-proclaimed atheist?

It is interesting that, before Obama joined Jeremiah Wright's Church in the late 1980s, we do not really know what his religious beliefs were, or whether he had any. Was his mother a Christian? Is anybody aware of whether he was baptized in any church, in his youth?

My major concern with any candidate: What's his/her agenda?

Yes. I am a non-believer myself, although I am generally supportive of the Jewish and Christian faiths.

Yes. I would rather have a conservative atheist, like SE Cupp, than a Marxist faux-Christian like Obama.

We can well assume his ‘religious’ beliefs were formed by those who mentored him in his youth and those would be Muslims and communists. Leftism is a religion; and shares many commonalities with with radical Islam. It is such a fit. . .as was Wrights ‘Nation of Islam’ cloaked in Christian clothes.

I vote for an atheist over a muslim.

Also, it depends on what type of atheist he/she was. Was it an atheist who respected Christians? Or was it one of those atheists who belittled everything Christian?

Although I disagree with Organized Religion in general, I still believe. No, I would not vote for an atheist.

Ayn Rand, one of the greatest speakers on the issue of individual rights and probably the greatest defender of capitalism, was an atheist.

An “Atheist” “Representative” would be the same thing as a “Pro-Life” Democrat. Neither one could ever represent me. Both are oxymorons.

If this was a man having a consistent long term history of support for conservative ideals without showing any need to bash on religion (Nat Hentoff comes to mind), the US could probably do far worse than that.

But just curious, why?

Yes, I think I could. Obviously, it would depend on a lot of other things, but it’s possible.

I wouldn’t like it, but that’s part of life.

Odumbo’s religious beliefs before he was elected are the same as they are now, he believes in marxism and is a communist.

As to the original question as to whether or not I would vote for an atheist if I agreed on their policies, the answer is “yes”.

Odumbo and his marxists beliefs are not atheistic, they are ANTI-theistic. There is a big difference between saying that there is no God (atheistic=foolish) and that there is no God and you cannot have a belief in God (anti-theistic=evil).
