EMAIL FRIEND | PRINT ARTICLE | 45 COMMENTS | SHARE March 24, 2010 Amish, Muslims to be excused from Obamacare mandate? WordWayze The Senate health care bill just signed contains some exemptions to the "pay-or-play" mandate requiring purchase of Obamacare-approved health insurance or payment of a penalty fine. As Fox News has pointed out, for instance, the Amish are excused from the mandate:
So while most Americans would be required to sign up with insurance companies or government insurance plans, the church would serve as something of an informal insurance plan for the Amish.
Law experts say that kind of exemption withstands scrutiny.
"Here the statute is going to say that people who are conscientiously opposed to paying for health insurance don't have to do it where the conscientious objection arises from religion," said Mark Tushnet a Harvard law professor. "And that's perfectly constitutional."
Apparently, this exemption will apply similarly to believers in Islam, which considers health insurance - and, for that matter, any form of risk insurance - to be haraam (forbidden).

Can we PLEASE send that as a note to ALL the republicans in congress and ask them to at least check if it is Constitutional and if not, DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT? Please RELOAD!!! Kepp on calling - keep on sending them tehse news. I am preety sure they don't know half of it.

And Christian Scientists.
A week or two ago, Savage had this story and he suggested that we all examine the tenets of our own religious traditions so that we can find a reason why we, too, should hve the religious exemption, then go to court and sue to get it. One more way to hold up BO-care.

So do the Muslims also get a pass on auto insurance in states where that is mandatory for your driver’s license?
To: maddog55
You shouldn’t need to change anything to declare being Amish. The Fed government can’t deny you your freedom of declaring a religious group. We’re the post-modern Amish.

I am curious to know how the IRS will determine if you are a member of a protected religion.
OR will that appear on our W-4s or on a new Citizen I.D. ?

No, you can be Amish and FReep.
Just use a battery-powered laptop, in a place with WiFi, and get someone else to recharge it for you.

I am a member of the Holy Constitutionalists, we worship at the alter of personal responsibility. The US constitution is our bible. The holy symbol we carry is shaped like an L and administers judgement. It is against our religion to pay taxes or accept free healthcare

Now Accepting Converts to the Church of Holy Constitutionalists I will be accepting tax deductable donations accepted under C503 status. Our doctrine will be based upon the US constitution and it will be a sin to pay taxes or accept governemnt healthcare insurance or government help in any way. Church will be held on Sunday . We will be recruiting pastors to fill positions in the reloading ministry and shooting range which will be located in the main chapel next to the constitutional law ministry

While I am tempted to create a religion to deal with this, there will soon enough be no choice for non-Amish/ non-Muslim who can’t afford to pay cash/not be insured, in that insurance will be destroyed, and we will all be forced into govt healthcare. As Rush has said for months, the whole thing is “the public option.”

We can start our own “new wave” Amish Church, complete with electricity.

There's got to be a lawsuit in there somewhere. A lawyer, and I'm don't know where he is, has already filed suit. Seems logical to me!

“The Indian tribes are exempt too. I think Im part Indian. I wonder if its enough.”
If that is true, then the exemption only applies to Treaty Tribes and those on recognized Reservations - all other Indians (of which the overwhelming majority do not live on Reservations) are in the same boat as the rest of us who are not them or Amish or muslims.
Keep in mind also that Separation of Church and State only applies to the Christian and Jewish religions.

"Here the statute is going to say that people who are conscientiously opposed to paying for health insurance don't have to do it where the conscientious objection arises from religion," We're exempt. I'd rather just say no. It's against my religion to sacrifice anything in support the Lucifer leftists. We're instructed by God not to be any part of their evil world.

were all Amish now...All you need is a belief in something higher than government to object. That would be easy. I believe in microscopic organisms. That gives me a free pass.
To: TigerBait
The Amish part is just a smoke screen to be able to protect his REAL people, the muzzies.
