Idea: Citizens Take Oath to Constitution to Protect and Defend

Posted on 03/23/2010 10:01:37 AM PDT by Heartlander2

In Colorado, during a Tea Party protest at the state capitol during the Health Care debate last Sunday, a vet lead all of us (enmasse) in an oath similar to the ones taken by members of the armed services and congress, raising our hands in allegiance to the Constitution to support and defend. At our largest upcoming Tea Party gathering in Colorado (Tax Day Tea Party), we are considering using the standard oath, led by a vet and asking all participating citizens to raise their right hand while making the oath. The "office" referred to in the oath would be one of "American Patriot".

This could be a good commitment for all who attend gatherings nationwide and could be an effective statement of our resolve as patriots. Thoughts?

I, (state your name), do solemnly swear (or affirm), that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter, So help me God.

I wanted to have them sharing a toilet, but I’m not that good of an artist - had to take what MS Office gave me.

Our Enemies do not play by rules.

Indeed. One major difficulty with taking an oath to uphold the Constitution is that when those in power grossly violate the rules under which they are supposed to operate, it may be necessary to use remedies not specified by those rules.

For example, if a Home Plate Umpire were to consistently call "Strike" on pitches by one team which roll to the plate (batters not swinging), and the Umpire-In-Chief happened to be a different official, I would suggest that after a certain point it might be appropriate for the Umpire-In-Chief to suspend and cancel the game for "inclement weather" even if the sky was perfectly clear. To be sure, there would be no legitimate basis for a weather cancellation, but declaring the game "rained out" would be less detrimental to the sport of baseball than declaring it to have been won by the Home Plate Umpire's favored team.

In connection with your excellent suggestion, Heartlander, this site might be of interest to FReepers — Oath Keepers.

Thank you so much for your post!
