But The Sniper adds a few good ones.
Amen!!! Our troops are the best!!!
Nice rifle, but for the average soldier, the FN-FAL will be plenty potent. I have actually built FN-FAL based rifles that will get to sub MOA. You just need a heavy barrel (which I make), a FF hand guard, and some trigger work.
I have a DSA SA-58 I’d love to get an HB and trigger job for. Are you a smith?
I can make you a barrel, but I am not a licensed gunsmith. I can loan you the tools to replace your barrel. It’s really easy, just unscrew the old one and screw on the new one. If you are close to Nashville, you can drive down after it is finished and we can replace it together and then take it out for testing. FF hand guards are available from Entreprise or DSA for about $100.
The ones I make use an Israeli HB gas block so if you want iron sights, you will have to get some Israeli front sight parts. You can use either an inch pattern or Israeli gas plug.
The work of the trigger I have seen is a company that makes a device that depresses the trigger return spring and locks it out of place. Look over at the FAL Files for more info.
P.S. I see you are in Washington. Kind of a long drive.
I saw the Israeli barrel on the web site but they
didn’t mention the dependency on Israeli pattern
sight. I supose I’d have to get rid of the bipod
to fit the FF HG.
I take it that headspacing these bad boys is straightforward then? I sent out my 03A3 for its
barrel change since these need machining to fit
correctly, according to several sources.
The M-14 comes to mind. It’s a heavy rifle I know but a .30 caliber round puts ‘em down and keeps ‘em down.
Attention Tom Hanks!
OOOO-RAH!
Should be sent to Tom Hanks!
>>Should be sent to Tom Hanks!<<
Big truth — Hanks’ use of WWII to increase his personal fortune and stature while disdaining the mission (and thus the soldiers) is pathetic.
Hanks outdid himself this past week!
brought tears to my eyes... the looks on the faces of the man and the baby... and the soldiers just doing what they are there to do... taking care of business like it's another day at the office... i don't know how they do it...
“God Bless these Marines”
Oh yes!, this picture brings me to tears.
Thanks, I dunno where The Sniper got the original photo - that is, before he turned it into a motivator.
He’s a a pal, I’ll pass this along.
The metric style front sight might fit an Israeli but I have never tried. But I know for certain that the metric gas plug is longer than the Israeli and inch pattern plugs.
The FN-FAL uses an interchangeable locking shoulder for head spacing. Just check the head space and then determine if you need a thicker one (too much head space) or a thinner one (not enough head space) and then pound out the old one and pound in the new one.
Any .30 cal semi auto battle rifle will weigh in at 10 lbs or so.
Ten pounds doesn’t sound too heavy but would it be practical as a field weapon for todays military?
It’s not just the weapon, it’s the ammo, too. Ten 20 round mags of 7.62 would easily weigh three times as much as ten 30 round mags of 5.56.
