Some firm and unequivocal pushback today by Supreme Court Chief Justice John G. Roberts Jr. to President Obama's court criticism in January.
It is not at all unusual in American history for the executive branch of the federal government (the White House, under the control of either party) to disagree with the judicial branch (Supreme Court).
What is considerably more unusual is for the chief executive of the executive branch (Barack Obama) to look down on the members of said Supreme Court in public at a joint session of Congress and to their faces denounce their independent actions.
And then to receive a resounding ovation from fellow Democrats standing to applaud and cheer Obama as the surrounded justices sat mute, motionless and unable to respond.
That, of course, is what Obama did in his first State of the Union address Jan. 27, objecting to a court decision allowing corporations to donate political funds like individuals as a matter of free speech.

Speaking in response to a law student's question, Roberts said anyone could criticize the court and, indeed, our governmental system of separation of powers encourages such opinionated diversity. Then, the chief justice added:
"I have no problems with that. On the other hand, there is the issue of the setting, the circumstances and the decorum.
"The image of having the members of one branch of government standing up, literally surrounding the Supreme Court, cheering and hollering while the court according to the requirements of protocol has to sit there expressionless, I think is very troubling."

Why are they surprised? They wanted a dictator and this is what dictators do!
Obama is a coward. Someone who need his buddies around to act tough and smart off.
It was an attempt at public intimidation...
Yep, I know. You're right. What's really embarrassing is that I caught "Alioto," got distracted, and forgot to correct my own error before posting. Oh well...it happens.
I’m praying for the day that I get a *ping* from you saying that SCOTUS is hearing the case (any case) about BO’s elegibility....
The others were simply misfits put into the office. Obama is a tyrant.
Who knows what she will do. She might owe Obama for the wrongful nomination, but he can’t touch her now or demand so much as a dull pencil from her. She doesn’t have to do anything for him. Of course the fact they are political twins might save Obama, but I doubt that she liked the cat calls she got in congress at the SOTU. Obama only made that worse.
Thats the thing, once in, the supremes are untouchable.
Silly Chief Justice didn’t you know that Obama (supposedly) wrote for the Havard Law Review... When you do something that can match his omnipotence then you can speak so until otherwise please shut up and color...
Indeed.
People are finally beginning to wake up.
The Emperor truly has no clothes.
And he is a classless oaf.
Havana on the Potomac
“Obamas on TV/Radio...I turn it OFF...”
I have not listened to or watched “the Kenyan Catastrophe” since he entered the White House.....
Harvard Law Review bull, HLS instituted affirmative action for review membership shortly before Zero enrolled there. He did not merit membership with his grades
Obama feels free to criticize the highest court in the land in public.
I wonder how he would take to the Supreme Court criticizing him in public. What would he say if Roberts said something like, “I wonder why Obama hasn’t shown us his birth certificate?” Hmmm?
Or even better, if the whole court said it. Or even better, if they said, “Show it to us.”
Acorn anyone?
We are witnessing the birthing of an American dictator who will end our freedom, opportunity and individual liberty!!! Sad, that the American people are sleeping like sheep and are letting this despot, POTUS Barack Hussein Obama rule unabated!!!
Obama is a street thug who conned his way through Columbia and Harvard. Just a street thug with a dubious pedigree.
;)
the emperor finished the parade even though he had no clothes.
Obama is going ride this parade to the end and the truth be hanged. Even naked rahm will fight.
I don’t like Obama’s juvenile comments, nor do I think appropriate what occurred with the legislature. However, it is not the first time friction appeared in the three branches. Off the top of my head I’m thinking of FDR threatening to pack and make SCOTUS a rubber stamp after the court struck almost all of his communist policies. Another conflict occurred when Andrew Jackson’s actions after Cherokee Nation vs. Georgia and Worcester v. Georgia. And finally, Chief Justice John Marshall asserting SCOTUS power made for interesting consequences.
But I could be wrong
