Former Birmingham Mayor Larry Langford was sentenced Friday to 15 years in federal prison for taking some $235,000 in bribes in return for lucrative bond work.
U.S. District Judge Scott Coogler imposed the sentence on Langford, 63, who told the court, "I am sorry all this has occurred."

Lost in the Langford trial is the 800 pound gorilla in the room: the Sewer Project.
Langford is going to jail for funneling county bond contracts to his friends Blount/LaPierre, who rewarded Langford in various ways.
However, why were those bonds needed? The infamous Jefferson County Sewer disaster. A corrupt judge ordered JeffCo to build a $3 Billion sewer replacement system.
The sewer scam, like the light rail scam before it (and the sports stadium scam invented later), is making its way from city to city across the U.S.
Environmental groups are bought off, raise a stink about old sewer systems, and corrupt judges are ordering new sewers built if the elections to build the sewers fail.
Well, Jefferson County never voted to build a new sewer system.
Moreover, Jefferson County doesn’t have the population base to repay a $3 Billion sewer system. To get around this last obstacle, County Commissioners used Auction Rate bonds that offered low intial interest rates and balloon funding. You know: the sub-prime adjustable mortgages of the Muni-Bond market.
Langford was a commissioner back then, and he pushed for his friends to get those auction rate bond execution contracts. Now he’ll get 15 years for steering those bonds through his friends.
But no one has been punished for forcing the new Sewer system itself onto Jefferson County, even though the residents failed to vote for it. There’s the crime.

Report: Edwards ‘certain’ to be indicted
John Edwards is on the verge of being indicted by a federal grand jury, the National Enquirer is reporting.
The supermarket tabloid quotes a “source close to the investigation” as saying: “The amount of work the grand jury has done is extensive. It’s certain John is going to be indicted.”
The disgraced presidential contender is under investigation for possible campaign violations related to payments to his ex-mistress Rielle Hunter

Andrew Young was on Oprah to talk about his book “The Politician” about his life and the lies of John Edwards, and Oprah asked about the sex tape.
Young’s wife told Oprah that the sex tape was her security, and implied that it showed John Edwards performing oral sex on Rielle Hunter.
When Oprah asked what was on the tape, Andrew wouldn’t say what the tape showed, but his wife Cheri piped up.
“I won’t give any fine details, but I’ll tell you yes, he is naked. He is performing sexual acts. The woman is holding the camera. He is aware he is being tape.”
Oprah remarked, “I thought: ‘you have got to be out of your mind to be running for the presidency of the United States and have someone film you having sex.’ Out of your MIND.”
Cheri later added, “That sex tape was my security... At least I had something to prove what had happened.”
