Most of the Supreme Court justices who two years ago said the 2nd Amendment protects individual gun rights signaled during arguments today they are ready to extend this right nationwide and to use it to strike down some state and local gun regulations.

I’m not ready to break out my “Snoopy Dance” until after I’ve read their decision.
the homeowners association, city, county, state, fed and possibly international levels will begin the new round of reasonable 'regulation' with the full force of gov like weve only conspiratoized in the past...

From the Calif. Atty. General website (Jerry “Moonbeam” Brown presiding)
First, unless exempt, individuals must possess a Handgun Safety Certificate (HSC) prior to purchasing or acquiring a handgun.
HSCs are acquired by taking and passing a written test on handgun safety, generally at participating firearms dealerships and private firearms training facilities.
IT OCCURS TO ME THAT VOTING HAS CONSEQUENCES! Therefore, voters should be required to pass a written civics test and pay a registration fee prior to receiving their voter registration card.
Same logic, no?
No, still a criminal, keep him away from the Chicago Bears please!!! We have enough negative press that guy was a cancer ontop of a cancer.
Whatever team has him can keep him, and his name is Tank Johnson not Williams, just a correction.
Roe V. Wade will not be coming up for review any time soon. The DC and Chicago bans should have been reviewed 30-odd years ago, at the time they were passed, but the court is just now getting to them. Roe v. Wade is going to be at least another 30 years out.
Thank God Bush gave us Roberts and Alito!
Forget quibbling about what it all means! What about the simple declarative sentence THE RIGHT OF THE PEOPLE TO KEEP OWN AND BEAR CARRY ARMS SHALL NOT BE INFRINGED. ???
“...pass a written civics test and pay a registration fee prior to receiving their voter registration card. Same logic, no?”
Yep...that would rule out 75% of the Dim constituents...
I just worry about the health of those key five justices and the probability of any one of them being replaced by an obama nomination.
I really doubt they will go any further than the Chicago ban in the home.
The conservatives are not prone to broad decisions, but rather small ones. Change comes slowly.
Regardless, I think we win this one even if room is left for some minor regulations.
To Freepers who say any kind of regulation on guns is wrong....you need to get a grip. Shall not be infringed does not mean some regulations can’t be there.
For example, free speech does not mean you can libel or slander another person. It does not mean you can yell “fire” in a crowded theater.
There are some minor regulations that probably will be upheld here even as the wider ban is struck down, and that’s okay.
Sounds about right to me.
Common sense alone leads to the same conclusion. What good is the Second Amendment if it only applies to federal laws? Everyone lives in one form of jurisdiction or another, whether it be city, county or state. The federal right cannot be exercised at all if every city, county or state law can preempt it in the manner that Chicago has done.
No.
And by the time we're done, numerous suits (each limited in scope), will result in an extensive body of case law upholding the private right to arms ... none will be able to assail it as a fluke, or a single badly reasoned case.
An even better criterion is that only tax-payers should be allowed to vote.
Yes, Mayor Daley’s chief virtue dese days is dat he roots ferda Pale Hose!
"fire" in a theater is also not prevented by duct tape upon entrance to the theater, and can in fact be a necessary use of 'FRee' speech if there is in fact a fire...
pre-emptive infringement is a violation of the 2A...
it either is a protected God given Right, or its a simple flavor of the month priveledge, cant have it both ways...
I like the Freud comment.
Bravo. I have commented before on how broad the language of the 2nd is compared to the 1st, and I think you are making exactly the right point.
And those are not counting CHicago’s Sewer-sides! ;~)
