HAMPTON — A local man is facing criminal charges after allegedly admitting to police that he killed a cat with a shotgun near his home back in November.

Jeffrey Lee Eiras, 54, Hampton, was arrested last week on charges of cruelty to animals and unauthorized use of firearms/firecrackers. Eiras was arraigned on the charges at Hampton District Court on March 1.

Police said the investigation began after they received a call from a concerned neighbor about the alleged incident that occurred at Eiras' home on Winnacunnet Road, near Locke Road, around 5 p.m. on Nov. 8, 2009.

You need to take a “liberal” approach to the cats. Explain to them you mean them no harm and wish to peacefully coexist. Then apologize for any and all things that have happened to them in the past, making sure to accept the blame on behalf of all Americans.

Soon they will come to realize you mean them no ill and will become cuddly little lap kitties.

How can this even make a headline? I trapped a mouse in my garage last week and not one reporter showed up ... I feel slighted. But if I’d have used a 357, .... hmmm, maybe this is about GUN CONTROL not kitties?

They cannot be domesticated and are dangerous to our children.

I came home from work to find a neighbor's cat sitting on our back porch eating a baby rabbit. I stepped out to scare it away and clean up the mess, and it stood it's ground, hissing at me.

Wrong answer. .22 subsonic and into the garbage. Not taking any chances with 3 small kids in the house.

A week later posters went up around the neighborhood. The picture was spot on, but the description didn't say anything about a tendency to kill animals in other people's fenced yards or having an agressive nature, so it couldn't have been the same cat.

At least he shot the cat, and didn’t skin him alive and otherwise torture him.

I had a feral cat lay her feral kitties in my bushes. I couldn’t find anyone who would take them for free. Did have a neighbor suggest I take them to a vet and have them checked out.

Then the momma tried to take my leg off.

Here in Florida we already have plenty of feral snakes. Neighbor found a coral snake in his yard. The feral hawks keep them down though.

Shoot, shovel, shuddap

I don’t have any subsonic .22s, and my .45 would probably wake up the neighbor. mmmmm perhaps a trip to the gun store is necessary.

I love animals and we have there cats, but feral cats are a huge problem around here. They devastate bird and small mammal populations, get into trash cans, and breed like rabbits. We had 14 different feral cats around our house at one time.

ya know I tried that.

Felt sorry for the momma cause it was a pretty hot Florida summer day. That ended when her claws came out.

My neighbor does that with raccoons. Traps them then holds the cage under water till the movement stops.

“Don’t shoot them, trap them and then dispose of them. I’ve eliminated many this way...”

Easier to just shoot ‘em. The report of .22 shorts don’t bother the neighbors overmuch.

I will not be trapped in my own house by someone’s “pet”.

In the owner's yard: someone's pet.

In your yard and threatening: fair game.

I prefer using a .22 myself.

I had one several years ago that snatched a porterhouse off my grill for the second time.

The 12ga was the closest gun I could find and I ended the disagreement as to who owned the steaks.
