ATF seizes 30 toy guns, infuriating local business owner

CORNELIUS, Ore. - A local business owner is flabbergasted after a shipment of 30 toy guns for his store was confiscated by ATF agents in Tacoma.

Brad Martin and his son, Ben, sell the Airsoft BB guns from their store in Cornelius where they’ve been in business for seven years.

The Martins said they buy their stock from Taiwan because the merchandise is less expensive. But the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives seized a shipment of 30 in October. That shipment is worth around $12,000 and the ATF is promising to destroy the entire shipment.

Special Agent Kelvin Crenshaw said the toys can be easily retro-fitted into dangerous weapons.

"With minimal work it could be converted to a machine gun," Crenshaw said.

Brad Martin is furious about the loss of money, for sure, but also in what he now thinks as a loss of his time and the use of government agents to seize toy guns.

"All this manpower, all this time, all this taxpayer money, [it is] wasting my time and my profitability,” Martin said. “[Just] to seize 30 toy guns!"

Ben Martin disagrees that the toy guns could ever be considered dangerous.

"To say these are readily convertible to machine guns is absolutely preposterous,” he said. “The round wouldn't go into the firing chamber and even if the firing pin did strike the primer the gun would basically blow up in your face.”

ATF said it also seized the toys because they are missing the blaze orange tips required on all imported toy guns.

The Martins said they've received shipments before from Taiwan that were missing the orange tips and were simply asked by customs agents to drive up to Tacoma and paint the tips orange themselves. They are wondering why it is an issue now.

Not really fishy that they cost 400 each. They are really nice, specialized TOYS. Think more in terms of a “toy” Radio Controlled airplane ,, not so much dime store cap pistol.

They are made to look and feel very real. But in the end,, are USELESS, except to propel a little plastic BB about the size of a Tic-tac breathmint.

This made me so mad I looked up the State representative & senator for Cornelius & sent them a note, asking them to intervene. If anyone else wants to, here are their addresses:

Senator Bruce Starr - sen.brucestarr@state.or.us
Representative Chuck Riley - rep.chuckriley@state.or.us

There is no way an AR15 upper is compatable with an airsoft lower. They have nothing in common except appearance. This guy is an affirmative action tard.

I don’t know what the stats are but it is not that uncommon - and is the reason for the orange tips I believe.

Of course it’s easy enough to paint the tip of a real firearm orange, and that happens sometimes too.

That’s about right for a battery-powered airsoft replica of an M-16...

Headline:

ATF Arrests Terror Suspect, Code Named "GI Joe"
(Agents Say Suspect Caught Carrying Unregistered Pistol with "Cop Killer" Ammunition)

(Reuters) WASHINTON DC: The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms arrested a possible domestic terrorist this afternoon in Fairfax Virginia. Agents (who spoke on a condition of anonymity) said the suspect was plotting acts of terrorism and caught with an unregistered plastic firearm strapped to his shoulder. "The public is safer today because of the bravery of our ATF agents in the field," he said. "Don't be fooled by this suspects 12" height, this guy was very dangerous. Not only did he have a plastic pistol, he also possessed 'Kung Fu' grip. There is no telling what this man was capable of."

ATF agents are currently on the look out for a possible accomplice to "GI Joe." This terrorist will answer to the same moniker, but is known to dress in paramilitary fatigues, and may be in the possession of an M-1 Carbine Assault Weapon.

My only interaction with F Troop convinced me that complete primitives, unable to be educated are salted among the ranks.
At one time I was foolish enough to believe that manufacturing specific bullets for a niche market would be a fun thing to do.

My first inquiry into the procedures and paperwork halted me right there. It wasn’t the rules...it was the two female agents who needed to have explained to them the difference between a bullet, a casing and loaded ammunition. No clue.

Unbelievable ignorance of galactic proportions -

If the batfags have time for toys its a sign they have no workload an need to be dissolved.

IMO this agent is a silly shit with an agenda of PR. Safe PR as its easier to raid toy stores.

Wonder if DEA knows all those little BBs are coke that hasn’t been stomped on once ?

.....:o)

The “real reason” for the confiscation is that if they could they would ban all toy weapons and have boys and girls play with dolls. A feminized population is easier to control and less threatening to the government.

They are the cast-offs, rejects, phonies, has-beens and never-was-es of law enforcement

BATF are literally a collection of those who could not make the hiring cut with a rural municipal police or county sheriff’s office organization, or a private security agency, let alone the FBI or US Marshall’s service.(Yeah I have known a few)

Calling them @$$-clowns is a deplorable, unmerited slur against @$$-clowns...

They were the likely inspiration for “Paul Blart: Mall Cop”, IMHO...

“Special Agent Kelvin Crenshaw said the toys can be easily retro-fitted into dangerous weapons.

“With minimal work it could be converted to a machine gun,” Crenshaw said.”

Coming from someone who owns two such guns and plays regularly, I can testify to the absolute BS of this statement. Anyone who’s ever seen the inside of an airsoft gun (and has logic, which I doubt this agent in particular has) would know there’s now way you could fire bullets from these toys, no matter what you did to them.

I’d bet more kids drown in a five gallon bucket than are shot by cops thinking their toy guns are real.
