Using his strongest language to date, Sen. Judd Gregg (R-NH) continued to sound the alarm about the dangers Barack Obama's budget policies pose to the fate of the nation in a speech given today to the New England Council in Bedford, New Hampshire.
The Ranking Member on the Senate Budget Committee has been speaking out in very stark terms about the effects Obama's trillion dollar deficits and out of this world spending will have on the near and long term future of the American people.
The Union Leader quoted Gregg as saying Obama's fiscal policies will lead to bankruptcy for the nation.
Gregg took aim at the President's $3.83 trillion proposed budget, which the Senator claimed would lead to economic disaster.
"We are right now, unquestionably, on a financial course which is unsustainable, which If we continue on this course, will lead our nation into some level of fiscal bankruptcy."
The AP quoted Gregg as saying Obama's policies will likely cause a "horrific event."
"The threat is that five to seven years from now we're going to have to substantively devalue the dollar, creating an inflationary event which would be a horrific event for the American people ... or alternatively, we will have to raise taxes so dramatically to catch our tail here on the spending side that we will basically crush productivity."
Gregg used slightly less alarmist language when he wrote in Investors Business Daily in June 2009 of his concerns about the ruinous debt Obama was planning for the nation.
Right now we are on a perilous and unsustainable fiscal course, which, if left unchecked, will lead to some disastrous results devaluation of the dollar, massive inflation and a confiscatory tax rate on our children that will destroy any hope for the same economic opportunities and lifestyle that we have enjoyed.
Gregg's proposal for a bi-partisan Congressional committee on debt reduction was recently waylaid by partisan brinksmanship.
Gregg is retiring at the end of the 111th Congress after serving three terms as senator.
I see a lot of hand waving on the part of people like Gregg and a lot of "We gotta do sumptin!" but no real suggestions on what and where to cut. Maybe since Gregg doesn't have to live with the fallout then he could come up with some?
Solar powered water heaters are used in home installations universally in Israel without subsidies to my knowledge. It’s just plain cheaper than running a gas, oil or electric water heaters, and Israel has plenty of sun.
When it gets cloudy, you turn on the electric water heater switch. It works.
The fact that the US sponsors solar water heaters in PR to the tune of 500 million of our tax dollars is criminal, however.
You’re right, we are on our own until someone in the political world sees an opportunity to step in. But it will have to be a safe move for them to do it. May have to suck it up for a while. But I do believe that it will happen.
That link doesn’t bring up the ex-pat article.
At least he is speaking out. Who else in the Republican Party is?
“Thats why Bayh and others are bailing out. They want to avoid being tarred and feathered when the STHF.”
100% in agreement with you!
The danger for these guys is that in or out of Congress people will remember who they are... Will they lose their safe haven (where ever that is) for themselves and their family if they are no longer in Congress?
The June 27, 2004 Kenyan Standard Times....http://web.archive.org/web/20040627142700/eastandard.net/headlines/news26060403.htm... I don’t understand how this type of coverup can happen.....It drives me crazy if I really focus on how insane this is.....The man acknowledged HIMSELF that he was born in Kenya......
“Isnt Gregg a RINOs RINO?”
Short answer: No. He’s probably the biggest deficit hawk on Capitol Hill, hardly an attribute of a RINO.
Question: Why are these radical Democrats flooding the world with trillions of printing press dollars?
I asked a question. It was an honest question. I'm not from New Hampshire. I'm sorry that offended you. I've seen Gregg criticized many times here.
Last time I checked, there were lots of Republicans questioning the wisdom of borrowing our way to oblivion. Many of them are right here in this forum. Obama's approval numbers are well below 50% and falling. If even 10% of those who disapprove of him do so as a result of concerns about massive borrowing for his stimulus slush fund, that would be millions of people, not "a few."
The admission from Obama of his birth in Kenya was in the fall of 2004 when Alan Keyes faulted him for not being a “Natural Born Citizen” to which Obama quickly retorted, “So what?, I am running for Illinois Senator, NOT the presidency”......
Kristinn,
I heard Gregg over the weekend saying that he has put on the table. MANDATORY purchase of Health Insurance. Like auto ins.
I find it interesting if he seems to have suddenly gained sanity after such comments.
No, that may not be found, but this is . . . .
For even when we were with you, we gave you this rule: "If a man will not work, he shall not eat."

Therefore, all welfare, or unemployment benefits that goes to those who sit around waiting for their gubmint check or debit card is not Scriptural. Gubmint welfare and unemployment benefits subsudizes sloth. Cut off their gubmint check and these lazy bums will find work real quick, maybe some of that work "Americans won't do", eh?
The only ones that can stop this Ahole is the US Congress. We have to take back the Congress and slam the door on his spending. That is what it will take and then in 2 years put in SOMEONE who knows what the heck they are doing!! Dang, now I have really put us on the spot. Who up there KNOWS what they are doing???
Depending on how serious you think things are, there is lot’s of good advice at this site, with a section for beginning preppers:

Quite a few in the media are becoming increasing critical of Nobama.
"It keeps me awake at night, looking at all that red ink," said President Obama in Nashua, N.H., on Feb. 2. "Most of it is structural and we inherited it. The only way that we are going to fix it is if both parties come together and start making some tough decisions about our long-term priorities." Source
As always, he is doing one thing and saying something else entirely.
No he didn't inherit this new spending. And it is going to be structural because he is making it so.
Talk, just talk.
I share your sentiment when I think of great newspapers like the Chattanooga Free Press but for every one of those there were five leftest Nashville Tennesseans.
I think the problem is not the medium but the very idea of civic responsibility keeps diminishing. Remember that ending of THE UGLY AMERICAN where Marlin Brando is explaining the situation and then it shows John Q. Public turning off his TV. As the conspirator says in A CLOCKWORK ORANGE the common citizens will sell liberty for a quieter life so they must be "prodded".
