Former Vice President Dick Cheney came out in favor of repealing "Don't ask, don't tell," (DADT) today.
Cheney said that the support of military leaders had convinced him that it was time for a change.
"Twenty years ago the military were strong advocates of 'Don't ask, don't tell.' I think things have change significantly since then," Cheney said on ABC's "This Week."
I think that society has moved on. It's partly a generational question," he continued. "When the [Joint] Chiefs come forward and say 'we think we can do it,' is strikes me that it's time to reconsider the policy."

I never served in the military but the rank and file troops need to have their voices heard. Especially in the Army and Marines, there is no privacy such as showering and going #2. The policy should be retained. The views of the soldiers should be a much jigher priority than those of the top brass who are out of touch.
What is the difference between me taking a public shower (high school, military, local gym)as a male (heterosexual) with a female, and a gay guy showering in my presence.
Let's have equal opportunity. You want gays to have nude public access to the object of their desire, then men and women need to give up the pretense of privacy.
Let it all hang ou!
Of course they do...so much for discussion, even here.
Absolutely correct. And in my estimation, approx 1/3 of this country is really dumb, another 1/3 support the destruction of our nation and eveything it stands for.
We have our work cut out for us to educate and drag the dumb-1/3 over to our side more than 80% of the time.
Yes. According to a poll cited in the comments to the article, 10 to 14% of active duty personnel admit they will not reenlist if this is put across. The number is probably much higher. The is going to damage the security of the entire country.
if your surrounded by freaks and perverts then maybe it;s time to move like I got my wife to move out of MA.
I know it’;s hard to move away but maybe it might be the best for the future and piece of mind
homosexuals will never understand the real world, they have been told by their mother etc that they’re normal they then grow up and get told they’re normal off fellow homosexuals
when they hear those who are against them and try to help them they get all drama queened.
The military/boy scouts and the churches have been attacked by the radical left and the homosexuals why?
because they all stand for tradition, conservative values and morals.
If it is about marriage then why don’t the homosexuals move out of states banning them to have their sham marriage?
Will this mean more homosexuals will enlist? course not this is an excuse to leave the military and then say they should be married and get our kids.
They’re all about sex, we’re talking about people who are not that right in the head sexually. Look at them hanging around public bathrooms for any stranger to have sex up their arse for instance.
it’s disgusting so here’s a thought for Cheney and others who want this to be overturned.
go and join the marines for a year and share a room, shower etc with a couple of them and see them touch each other, kiss each other, maybe even catch them having sex .
Then lets see if you’re not repulsed by it by the end of the year.
can you imagine Ft Hood etc and seeing men holding hands and kissing each other
just WTH is that going to look like and how the hell are other soldiers and marines who feel uncomfortable being watched by them now having to put up with them and seeing that?
Thanks!
I still have friends serving and not one of them are for this, I could not even put on here what they said or what would happen
PC has already killed and still the left does not get it
The children of Republicans are targeted.
DADT is a different case. Society has largely made up its mind, and now the military is rushing (or being pushed) to catch up. (I'm using military to refer to the institution; the individual members are largely apathetic to sexual orientation AFAICT.)
exactly
there was a lady on here serving and she said that she does not have showers with the guys as women feel uncomfortable and yet now she will have to have a shower with women who want sex with her
we have seperate shower and rooms for a reason if don’t ask is overturned then we might as well have shared male and female shower, rooms etc
asking the joint chiefs who will not be affected by this is wrong , go on base and ask the marines who will be affected
personally and for the record I would rather see them thrown out if they are doing homosexual acts and we ALL KNOW THIS IS A STEP FOR THEM TO SAY WE CAN DIE AND FIGHT BUT WHY CAN WE NOT GET MARRIED SO OVERTURN DOMA and have the FED GOVT recognise our sexual sick agenda
any official who thinks about voting for this will really be asking to lose their seat in many areas.
The Dems are already in trouble and I cannot see many of them down here or the midwest or even AK voting to overturn this.
Cheney says things have changed, well what and why did he not state any improvments this will bring to the military
The "we can die and fight" card hasn't done jack squat for adults under 21 who want to drink. I think that particular card is worthless.
Another thread today had everyone waiting with bated breath to see who Cheney endorses for President. I wouldn’t want his endorsement, if I were any of them.
Just what this country needs. A bunch of “soldiers” running around shouting, “Look at me! I’m queer!”
Well, actually, under the "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" policy that Clinton started and Bush continued, servicemenbers have been sharing showers with homosexuals since the early 1990's.
They just don't know if the guy standing right next to them is gay or not.
As long as homosexuals are already allowed in the service (they were NOT, theoretically, when I was on active duty), I'd like to know who is gay and who is not.
The stats say there are thousands of gays serving in the military. We have women serving in the military.
The heterosexual women and men all have already been showering or bunking with lesbians and gays.
So, if we enforce the rules against anyone acting out sexually( male or female) and throw out anyone who does NOT act appropriately. how would this be different than what we have now?
Of course, the ideal would be to not have women or gays in combat areas or in country. But that will never happen cause of political correctness.
I’m guessing your a woman so lets say a woman is serving she does not want to share a shower or a room with guys
why?
well she feels uncomfortable knowing that these guys are looking at her in a way sexually, well this is how a man would feel if he had to share a shower with guys who are looking at him in a sexual way.
Now imagine you have just come back from a patrol, you have been shot at and have seen your friend with his head blown off.
You now as a trained killer and have just killed a few guys go to get a shower and a guy comes in and makes a remark about your ass or privates.
Is that guy now supposed to ignore that, is he supposed to ignore the looks and the comments by that officer say?
Until someone can tell me how this improves the military in a great way then I will stand by my views from my experience as a vet
The liberal indoctrination of the kids continues nicely..........
