It would take several days to complete this “land painting”, or an awful lot of trips in one day. And it would all disappear after another snowfall, not to be seen again until the snowbanks had melted back quite a ways.

I know, first hand, because I used to “haul it out” and get it spread on the land all winter long, years ago. Allis-Chalmers WD-45 tractor with chains on the rear wheels and a power-take-off-driven “animal waste” dispersing trailer (manure spreader or turd hearse). This practice may be illegal now, as the runoff is supposed to be a point-source of pollution for surface waters, as the solutes do not go into the frozen ground so well.

As my mother in law, who grew up on a farm, likes to say, that’s money you’re smelling, son.

I believe there’s a relevant song by the J Geils Band.

It’s called “Love Stinks”!
