WASHINGTON (AFP) - You know smoking is bad for you. You know inhaling someone else's smoke is bad for you. Now a US study says third-hand smoke -- tobacco residue clinging to surfaces -- is also bad for you.

Smokers at Tampa International Airport are seen taking advantage of the airport's smoking area. When a cigarette burns, nicotine is released in the form of a vapor that collects and condenses on indoor surfaces such as walls, carpeting, drapes and furniture, where it can linger for months, said the study, which was published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS).(AFP/File/Paul J. I think there is something to this. If I'm around someone who has been near a smoker I can smell the smoke. I once smelled a suitcase on opening of a nonsmoker who lived in a household with a smoker and the smell was strong.

That said, I think the concentrations are so small I'm not in any danger.

Dude, I just read your post about third-hand smoke. That means I've just been exposed to fourth-hand smoke.

I'm scared. Please hold me.

The Trial Lawyers Association had to have something to do with funding these studies.

Once, when I went to visit a friend, the first thing she did after I unpacked was spray Febreeze into my suitcase.

Statists always progress. They never quit until they have complete control of every aspect of your life.

Even sadder is that as soon as the subject is tobacco, they will be applauded by some FReepers.

Since I don't own a car, I will have a contest with any non-smoker who owns one. If they win, I will give them all of my earnings for the rest of my life.

I will run a hose from their tailpipe to the cab of their vehicle and stand outside their vehicle with a cigarette while they sit inside their running car.

If they're still alive by the time I finish my cigarette, they win.

Breathign is bad for you, unless of course it is the air that leaves obama’s lungs. His pureness has filtered all the bad from the air.

cutting down trees upon acres and acres of them here in FL and killing animals habitat to make gated right on top of each other communities for liberal yankees to move into is killing the pure air we breathe so will the left now stop all of that too

“But this is about as scientifically honest as Anthropogenic Global Warming.”

I'm wondering why we should believe any of this kind of stuff.

Seems like true science (assuming there is such) is allowing its credibility to be undermined by pseudoscience.

“4th-hand smoke is where the cigarettes smoke you. “

You mean like when someone falls asleep drunk with a lit cigarette between there fingers and it burns down to their skin?

Or like when someone falls asleep in bed with a lit cigarette and catches fire to the bed and stuff?

it is a start of more bashing on smokers.

Nope. This means the research grants to study "second-hand smoke" are drying up. Therefore, it's time to move on to "third-hand smoke."

Pot smoke, on the other hand, (or wherever else its residue may have settled) is probably A-okay.
